As Loki season 2 draws nearer, some fans have noticed that the new season of the acclaimed series brings an old Marvel Studios tradition for the Disney Plus shows that many fans have wanted for the past few releases. The trend, coincidentally, was willfully broken by the show’s first season.
Lokiis a Disney Plus series centered around the eponymous character from the pages of Marvel Comics and chronicles happenings after the events of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. The show premiered to much acclaim and notably shook up Disney Plus releases by making Wednesday the new Friday, a trend that has remained in place for new releases ever since.

Many fans have expressed a distaste for the Wednesday releases, citing a loss of fanfare, the air of occasion that followed earlier Disney Plus shows, and the social media buzz fueled by their weekend releases. However, it seems the trickster god has decided to set things right, as The Direct reported that the second season of Loki, which had its release date announced alongside Echoin May,is set to resume the Friday release schedule that its first season did away with, potentially marking a return to the much preferred weekend drops for new shows.
Loki season 2, which has already confirmed Sylvie’s return with an updated look, will follow the same 6-episode format as the first season and is set to air its first episode on the first Friday of October, further adding to the special feel of the premiere. The show will keep the newly reestablished Friday pattern and is expected to finish its run with the same time slot for new episodes until it concludes. The format will likely lend itself to the material in the season, with the stakes being multiversal in scope and failure not being an option.
Loki season 2 has a lot going for and riding on it, as it has the advantage of the optimal time slot and already looking a lot better than Secret Invasion, which failed to capture the audience and suffered from pacing issues, questionable plot and character choices, and uninspired action. The resumption of the prior release schedule might not have anything to do with the negative miasma of Secret Invasion, but there’s a fair chance that the bad performance inspired some drastic changes that may or may not have been implemented.
With Deadpool 3 set photos teasing a Loki connection and the new and improved episode release schedule, a solid performance for the streaming platform might be the proof of concept that Loki needs to give to permanently overturn its Wednesday move. How this plays out for future releases must be confirmed when they debut.
Loki season 2 is scheduled to be released on Disney Plus on October 6, 2023.
