Is John Boyega officially joining the MCU? The actor confirms that he’s had talks with Marvel Studios about joining the blockbuster franchise.
The has been a long and cherished history of fancasting any actor imaginable into the MCU. It makes sense, not only given how many characters there are in the franchise, but how many big actors have already signed on. Though in the pantheon of action movie stars fans have been begging to join Marvel Studios in one way or another, John Boyega sits near the top of the list.
John Boyega’s name first became heavily associated with Marvel Studios following Jonathan Majors being ousted from the role of Kang the Conqueror. Boyega was one of the first actors floated to take over the mantle of Kang in the MCU. However, not long after speculation began to circulate, Boyega shut down the idea that he’d take on the role. Though this didn’t cause conversations about the actor to go quiet. Rather, they only ramped up as people tried to find a new character for him to play.
For most, these fancasting posts were just fun exercises imagining what it would be like for one of their favorite actors to join the MCU. However, they may not be as hypothetical as fans once thought. Speaking to Josh Horowitz at the Chicago Comic And Entertainment Expo, John Boyega reveals that he has spoken to Kevin Feige about a role in the past. And while he didn’t have a character in mind then, he certainly has one in mind now: Bishop.
Bishop is certainly a fitting character for John Boyega, given the actor has a history of taking on sci-fi roles with heavy doses of social commentary subtext within them. And with the X-Men just around the corner of the MCU with the upcoming Mutant Saga, it may not be long until this dream becomes a reality. Especially as, if rumors are to be believed, Marvel Studios is currently sorting through actors right now for the inaugural lineup!
