He’s cute. He’s hungry. He’s the hottest new character to come out of Marvel Comics in years. And he’s a shark with legs. Literally. Now, Jeff the Land Shark, having conquered Marvel Infinity and Marvel Rivals, is making his way into monthly comics with a five-part solo miniseries.

First appearing in 2016’s West Coast Avengers #6, Jeff the Land Shark was a creation of MODOK Superior. He was adopted by the team as a pet, with Gwenpool and Kate Bishop trading off on caring for him. However, Jeff has also shown up fighting alongside Deadpool and Elsa Bloodstone. He later got his own Marvel Infinity Series, It’s Jeff, which won the Eisner for Best Humor Publication in 2024. Jeff also made a name for himself as a playable character in Marvel Rivals in December 2024.

Concepts like Jeff the Land Shark seem uniquely suited towards the comics medium. There is a certain camp element to superheroes that is inherently silly. Jeff seems to epitomize that spirit. However, it also helps that his adventures, as written by Kelly Thompson, are genuinely funny.

“Seeing Jeff rocket to stardom has been wild, and also exactly what he deserves,” Thompson said. “I’m obviously as biased as you can get. But what’s not to love about an adorable land shark that wants to be friends with and/or eat everything he sees?”

“I’m thrilled that the slow burn success of Jeff in comics and the wildfire success of Jeff in Marvel Rivals can work together to bring us the opportunity for not only more Jeff stories, but more complex Jeff stories,” Thompson continued. “The It’s Jeff series works almost like perfectly executed jokes, and I couldn’t love it more. But it’s exciting to take on the challenge of the complicated narrative that you can get from a mini-series.”

Jeff the Land Shark #1 arrives in comic shops everywhere on June 4, 2025.
