As Marvel gears up for its next major event, One World Under Doom, the long-time fan-favorite character Squirrel Girl
is finally returning to the comics to help take down the Sorcerer Supreme. While the hero has made infrequent appearances across various Marvel comics, this will be her proper returning debut since her standalone series ended in 2019. Soon, Squirrel Girl will be back to kick butts and eat nuts.

Preparing for
One World Under Doom
’s official launch this February, AIPT Comics had an opportunity to interview writer Ryan North, who is spearheading the event’s official series sharing the same name.

Long before Marvel was under the threat of a tyrannical Sorcerer Supreme, Ryan North was the writer behind Doreen Green’s last solo series, The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl. When asked if Squirrel Girl was poised to make an appearance in the upcoming event, North was elated over his prized character, assuring fans that everyone’s favorite squirrel-like superhero would be making a return appearance.

Ryan North Is Excited to Bring His Favorite Hero Back

“The bottom line is there’s no way I was ever gonna do a Marvel event and not include Squirrel Girl in it,” said North. “If she wasn’t there, people would be like, ‘Well, the only reason why I didn’t put her there is ‘cause she would solve this problem in 10 minutes.’” “The bottom line is there’s no way I was ever gonna do a Marvel event and not include Squirrel Girl in it,” said North. “If she wasn’t there, people would be like, ‘Well, the only reason why I didn’t put her there is ‘cause she would solve this problem in 10 minutes.’” – Ryan North

For those less familiar with the rambunctious, hyper-friendly hero known as Squirrel Girl, Doreen Green is a mutate who was born with all the natural abilities of a squirrel, alongside a long bushy tail and the ability to talk to squirrels. Doreen is a fairly laid-back street-level hero who tries to enjoy every moment of her life. Because of her whimsical nature, most are quick to overlook the Squirrel Girl’s talents, but behind those perky ears and bright smile hides Marvel’s most powerful hero. Frankly, there’s a reason she’s known as the “Unbeatable Squirrel Girl.”

Marvel Rivals Has Resurrected the Wolverine/Squirrel Girl Romance Marvel Wants You to Forget

“Marvel Rivals” just revived a controversial romance between Wolverine & Squirrel Girl, which Marvel initially tried really hard to make fans forget.

Thanos, Galactus, Kang, Ego the Living Planet, and even Doctor Doom are just some of the powerhouse villains that Squirrel Girl has overpowered. She, alongside her current sidekick Tippy Toe the squirrel, is practically unbeaten in combat. However, it’s not Doreen’s ridiculous combat skills that garner her the ultimate advantage when facing a villain, it’s her charisma. Squirrel Girl has the miraculous talent to make friends with anyone she talks to. One of her closest friends before his later death was
Kraven the Hunter
, who gained a fresh perspective on his life thanks to her intervention.

Squirrel Girl Could Get a Second Chance at a Solo Series

She’s Already Experiencing a Surge in Popularity

Unfortunately, Squirrel Girl has far too often found herself on the edge of narrative abandonment. Besides Ryan North, who proved that
Squirrel Girl could stand on her own
, many writers pawned her off as a silly one-note trick. However, her continued persistence is partially what makes her so popular. She’s an underdog who devoted readers have been begging to return to the comics. Alongside her appearance in the new Marvel Rivals video game, it looks like Doreen Green is about to make the comeback of a lifetime once One World Under Doom debuts next month.

Maybe we’ll see some squirrel-based trauma flash over the Sorcerer Supreme.

It’s fun that Ryan North has taken advantage of this event to bring Squirrel Girl back, even if it’s only as a brief cameo. The last time she faced Doctor Doom, it didn’t go in his favor. Maybe we’ll see some squirrel-based trauma flash over the Sorcerer Supreme. This could be a chance for the nutball to make her spectacular return as a serious hero. At the very least her appearance is sure to entice readers to demand a new Squirrel Girl series, which we desperately need.
