Godzilla is in the middle of the radioactive Renaissance period with both the Japanese Toho and American MonsterVerse film series thriving. Because of the King of the Monsters’ big-screen success, a ton of new merchandise has been produced for the franchise. One of the more unique parts added to the Godzilla lore lately has been the epic comic book crossovers. Legendary’s MonsterVerse and DC released the miniseries Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong last year, with a sequel on the way this summer. Marvel has also gotten in on the Kaiju fun with a series of one-shots titled Godzilla vs. Marvel. The calibration kicked off this month with Godzilla vs. Fantastic Four #1, but it will soon continue with Godzilla vs. Spider-Man #1. Now, Marvel and Godzilla fans just got a titan-sized preview of this wall-crawling chapter.

In an exclusive interview with Godzilla vs. Spider-Man’s writer, Joe Kelly, done by Godzilla.com, revealed four pages of the book. In the artwork, Peter Parker is seen taking on Godzilla in his iconic black symbiote suit. Other popular Spider-Man characters, like Black Cat, Shocker, and J. Jonah Jameson, appear in the artwork as well. When talking about the black suit’s impact on the narrative, Kelly stated:

“Godzilla has been haunted by extraterrestrial creatures and cultures since the early days. Even though Spider-Man does not yet know that his black suit is more than just some cool, outer space threads, it’s an alien life form – and that is Godzilla bait! Seems like a great excuse to get Spider-Man and Godzilla together!”

The story itself takes place in the 1980s, which was a time when Kelly collected Spider-Man comics and discovered his for the Godzilla character through the movies on TV.

‘Godzilla’ & ‘Spider-Man’ Return to Theaters

After the massive box office success of Godzilla Minus One, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, both cinematic pop culture icons will soon be back on the big screen. For Godzilla, Toho is currently developing a Minus One follow-up, while Legendary is currently filling out its cast for the next MonsterVerse film. So far, the sequel to The New Empire includes Dan Stevens (Godzilla vs. Kong), Matthew Modine (Stranger Things), Delroy Lindo (Da 5 Bloods), and Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart). The untitled adventure is set to start filming next month in April and will be directed by Grant Sputore. On top of that, the live-action Apple TV+ series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters is well into production for Season 2. To hold MonsterVerse fans over, comics were recently announced as well.

As for Spider-Man, Tom Holland’s version of the web-slinger will next appear in the untitled Spider-Man 4. No plot details are available at this time, but Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) was cast in a mysterious role this past week. Shang Chi’s director Destin Daniel Cretton will take over duties from Jon Watts. The latter of which directed the last three films. The sequel is set to be released on July 31, 2026. Holland will also most likely appear in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. However, that hasn’t been confirmed yet.

Where Can You Stream ‘Godzilla’ & ‘Spider-Man’?

Most of Spider-Man’s back catalog of films and shows, like Sam Raimi‘s Spider-Man trilogy and Homecoming, are currently streaming on Disney+. Godzilla’s content, on the other hand, is scattered across a few different streaming services. For example, Godzilla Minus One is streaming on Netflix, and Godzilla (2014) is destroying Tubi for free. Before you start binging, you can find more information about Godzilla vs. Spider-Man on Marvel’s website. The one-shot is set to hit store shelves on April 30. You can also read Kelly’s full interview, where he talks about things like his favorite version of the famous giant, on Godzilla.com.
