Marvel Rivals just revealed the game’s second season, coming April 11, 2025, and it is centered around one of the X-Men’s best storylines: The Hellfire Gala! Along with the new point of interest setting, there will be two new characters added to the game, and a plethora of new skins to fit the theme of the mutant’s most stylish event, and Marvel’s version of the Met Gala.
As posted by @MarvelRivals on X, the popular 6v6 third-person shooter game will take players to the sovereign mutant nation of Krakoa, the living island, to experience the annual Hellfire Gala in its new “season” of gameplay. Marvel Rivals Season One focused on New York City, and featured Dracula, with its setting inspired by the 2024 Marvel Comics event known as “Blood Hunt.”
Marvel Rivals has rapidly gained popularity and has begun introducing casual Marvel fans to obscure characters, locations, and events, while doing a fantastic job of pointing them towards the comics.
The Hellfire Gala, Explained: How The Iconic X-Men Event Is Perfect For “Marvel Rivals”
A Spectacular Setting And Great Designs
From 2021-2023, the Hellfire Gala was an annual event hosted by the sovereign mutant nation of Krakoa, held with purpose of voting in a new X-Men team to operate outside Krakoa. Hosted by Emma Frost and the Hellfire Trading Company, the Hellfire Gala acted as a state dinner, and was the only time of the year when the gates to Krakoa were open to non-mutant diplomats, celebrities, and heroes such as the Avengers. Sadly, the third and final annual Gala ended in tragedy, as the anti-mutant group known as Orchis attacked and sparked the Fall of X.

Marvel Rivals’ Official Lore Has Never Been Easier to Understand
Marvel Rivals has been a break-out hit among gamers, and Marvel Comics is capitalizing on that excitement with a series of tie-in comic stories.
Now, Emma Frost invites players to the Hellfire Gala, as she makes her way to Marvel Rivals herself as a playable character to once again host the Hellfire Gala. However, the Hellfire Gala may end in tragedy in Marvel Rivals, just like in the comics, except this time Ultron will be taking down the mutants of Krakoa. Ultron will also join Rivals as a playable character in May, during the second half of season two. Players won’t have long to enjoy Krakoa before Ultron attacks, and it is ripped away into a raging temporal storm and is stranded in 2099.

The Hellfire Gala is more than just a vote for the next X-Men team and making big announcements to the world’s leaders, but it’s also an opportunity for the mutants of Krakoa to put their best foot forward and showcase mutant high fashion. The stylish new Hellfire Gala skins coming to Marvel Rivals are ripped straight from the comics, including Black Widow’s 2022 costume, Captain America’s 2022 suit, and Black Panther’s 2023 look. In a change of direction that fans should love, Marvel Rivals will follow a monthly release strategy for its new heroes, starting with season 3.
Another interesting fact about the third and final Hellfire Gala is that it’s where Ms. Marvel was resurrected and found out she’s a mutant. The question is, where is Ms. Marvel and other prominent X-Men like Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Angel, and Iceman? Will they be completely left out of this X-Men-centric season? Hopefully, they will be added not too far down the line, and will get their moment to shine in the Hellfire Gala. Marvel Rivals season two will be available for free on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows starting April 11, 2025, from Marvel and NetEase Games.
