Marvel fans who have come to know and love the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Loki are often curious about the character’s power-levels in Marvel Comics lore. While Loki isn’t the physical powerhouse that his brother Thor is, the evidence of his true power is clear. Though he prefers to remain “behind the curtain” as much as possible, manipulating events, when unleashed, his power in battle is absolutely devastating.
It is important to note off the top that Loki is a manipulator by nature. The character’s entire goal is, more often than not, to obscure how powerful and influential he actually is. It makes sense that most people wouldn’t consider Loki to be especially powerful, but looking over his comic history, he’s among Marvel’s most powerful magic users.
Further, Loi’s powers go so far that he’s even been shown as capable of warping reality. This puts Loki at a significantly higher level of power than the vast majority of Marvel Universe characters, possibly even above his brother.

In part, this is why the character adapted to the screen so well, and became a break-out Marvel Cinematic Universe hero.
Loki’s Mixed Mythological Heritage Gives Him A Dynamic Power Set
His Half-Asgardian/Half Frost-Giant Biology, Explained
One defining aspect of Loki’s power is his mixed biology. While Thor is a pure Asgardian, Loki is half-Asgardian and half-Frost Giant. This means that Loki as all the attributes of the typical Asgardian, but boosted to a significantly higher degree. The Avengers Have an Epic Rematch Against Loki in Chip Kidd & Michael Cho’s New Graphic Novel
Chip Kidd & Michael Cho are joining forces for a new Avengers adventure in the Veracity Trap, the new graphic novel from Abrams’ MarvelArts series.

His Mystical Power Set, Explained
While all of these feats are impressive, it’s absolutely nothing compared to Loki’s abilities as a sorcerer. There are many powerful magic users in the Marvel Universe, such as Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom, but Loki puts them both to shame. In the right conditions, Loki is a Dormammu-level magic user. In Silver Surfer #4, the Silver Surfer outright states that Loki’s magical abilities are powerful enough to decimate a planet. Considering Silver Surfer is the herald of Galactus, he’s definitely the expert on who can or can not destroy planets.
While this hasn’t been shown in the past, there’s no reason to assume that Silver Surfer is wrong in his statement. In addition to these incredible destructive powers, Loki is also a master of psionics. Loki is perfectly capable of communicating with beings telepathically. Most alarmingly, he can project his thoughts across the barrier of dimensions, allowing him to make contact with anyone across the Marvel Multiverse – yet another power that puts him in the rarified air of Marvel’s upper echelon.

His Cosmic Upgrade, Explained
Among the most powerful tools that Loki is often seen with are the Norn Stones. The Norn Stones were originally created by the Celestials to help them traverse the dimensions, but they eventually fell into the hands of the Asgardians. These stones have immense power, and Loki has used them for various different scenarios; they remain part of his arsenal that he can pull out as needed.
This Iconic MCU Line Has a Deep Connection to Hulk Lore I Never Would Have Guessed
There’s one iconic line of dialogue said by Hulk in the MCU which was recently repeated in the comics, giving it deep-cut significance to Hulk lore.
The power of the Norn Stones is best exemplified by the story in which Daredevil’s brother, Mike Murdock, used a Norn stone in conjunction with an Asgardian book of spells to rewrite reality and make himself a real person. This spell altered reality and everyone’s memories of it, making it so Matt believed that he had always grown up beside Mike. It was an incredible display of power, and this is what someone with no magic experience was capable of doing with one. With that in mind, there’s no reason to believe that Loki wouldn’t be able to use the stones to rewrite reality on a massive scale.
Loki Has A Dangerous Variety Of Powers That Make Him Endlessly Versatile
Psionics, Shapeshifting, Teleportation, Illusion Casting; Loki Has It All
In addition to his godlike and mystical powers, perhaps Loki’s other most powerful ability is his shapeshifting. It’s been stated that this is Loki’s most “soul-draining” ability, and he’s capable of transforming into virtually anything. He can even assume the shape of inanimate objects if he so desires. This ability is by far the biggest asset to his manipulations, and it’s a huge part of why Loki is such an absurdly dangerous character. Not only is he brilliant at manipulating someone’s thoughts and actions, but he can also approach someone under the guise of anyone he wants.
