Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Avengers #25! Iron Man is one of the greatest heroes in the Marvel Universe, so it’s no surprise that he’d have a number of dangerous – sometimes underrated – villains that want to take him down. While the likes of Iron Monger, the Mandarin, and even Thanos himself are a few major standouts, there’s one villain in particular who is now taking the spotlight, as they just got an utterly horrifying redesign.

In an unlettered preview for Avengers #25 by Jed MacKay and Valerio Schiti, the Avengers are going toe-to-toe with Doctor Doom, as this issue takes place during the ongoing Marvel Comics event: One World Under Doom. In this event, Doctor Doom has become the Sorcerer Supreme, and he’s using that power to take over the world. However, as this preview reveals, Doom isn’t the Avengers’ only problem.

The focus of this preview is on another villain (or, rather, group of villains) entirely: the Masters of Evil. The Masters of Evil is a super-villain team nearly as old as the Avengers itself, with a revolving cast of villains that make up the group. The modern Masters of Evil – as this preview reveals – consist of Mister Hyde, Madcap, Mad Thinker, Exterminatrix, and Dreadknight. And it’s that last one who is the main standout, as Dreadknight just became way more terrifying – specifically, his winged horse.

Dreadknight’s Redesign Makes Him Way More Terrifying

Dreadknight is a Classic Iron Man Villain

Dreadknight made his debut in 1977’s Iron Man #101, and he actually made quite the first impression, as he took down Iron Man in his very first appearance. Dreadknight was living with Frankenstein and the Children of the Damned at the time, and when Iron Man stumbled upon their castle and started fighting them, Dreadknight snuck up behind Iron Man and incapacitated him.

Dreadknight’s debut proves that he’s an underrated Iron Man villain, as few others can boast that they actually took him down during their first encounter. And now, Dreadknight is about to do the same to the entire Avengers roster, and his winged horse – whose redesign makes it look much more demonic and threatening than it ever has before – will only help Dreadknight’s intimidation factor.

Dreadknight Might Be Terrifying, but He Might Also Be a Secret Avengers Ally

There’s One Person Dreadknight Hates More than Iron Man: Doctor Doom

Dreadknight has become more terrifying than ever, on top of the fact that he already proved capable of defeating Iron Man, which means he and his new Masters of Evil allies might be a major challenge for the Avengers in this upcoming issue. However, this preview also makes it clear that Doctor Doom is still the Avengers’ main problem, and since that’s the case, Dreadknight might actually become a secret Avengers ally. Why? Well, Doctor Doom created Dreadknight, as he’s the one who maliciously fused a mask to his face and made him an outcast/villain to begin with.

Iron Man decided to stop selling weapons long ago, but he’s betrayed that moral stance to become Doctor Doom’s weapons provider in a shocking twist.

Dreadknight hates Doctor Doom more than anyone, and that includes Iron Man and the Avengers. While it’s possible his hatred of Doom is enough to turn Dreadknight from villain to ally, that much remains to be seen. However, what’s terrifyingly obvious is the villain’s demonic redesign, making Dreadknight – and, specifically, his winged horse – way scarier than when he first took on Iron Man upon his debut.
