Marvel’s current Ultimate Universeis about to undergo another major status quo shift, as Earth-6160’s version of Iron Man reboots the universe’s biggest superhero team. Essentially this continuity’s Avengers, the Ultimates feature some of the universe’s most powerful heroes, like Thor and She-Hulk. However, Marvel is teasing that the team will be shaken up very soon, and new versions of other iconic characters could even be making their Ultimate debut.
Tony Stark is going to be trying something new and “more daring” than ever before with his new Ultimates.
Marvel recently released details on its offerings from the Ultimate Universe coming out this June, just as the second year of Earth-6160’s premier team is officially underway. In Ultimates #13–written by Deniz Camp, with art by Juan Frigeri–Iron Lad will lay out his bold new plans for the next version of the universe’s biggest team, the Ultimates 3.0.
The Maker is six months away from returning, so Tony Stark pulls out the blue marker to start brainstorming how he can assemble the team that will finally beat the alternate universe’s evil Reed Richards once and for all.

Since two other attempts have proven unsuccessful in toppling The Maker’s Council so far, Tony Stark is going to be trying something new and “more daring” than ever before with his new Ultimates. The first attempt to build this universe’s version of an Avengers lineup failed, since only Peter Parker and Luke Cage actually survived and became heroes after Tony managed to give them their rightful powers. However, it seemed Spider-Man wasn’t ready for the team just yet, and Power Man declined Tony’s Ultimates invitation to focus on freeing people that the villainous regime has imprisoned.

What Kind of Team is Tony Stark Actually Building?
Hints have been dropping that this universe’s Tony Stark may soon take a villainous turn, making it worth questioning whether the next iteration of the team will be Iron Lad’s Ultimates or Kang’s. Readers have already seen Tony’s version of Kang lead an army of clones—including Captain America, Thor, Wasp, Giant Man, and Vision—in Ultimate Invasion. Tony Stark’s plans for the team revealed in Ultimates #13 may be laying the groundwork for this dark potential future.
While it may still be too early for cloning to come into play, there are other exciting Marvel characters yet to make their debut in the Ultimate Universe, who could finally join the team. It’s possible the team could even include Earth-6160’s established characters, like Luke Cage, Black Panther, Storm, or Spider-Man. The possibilities for the Ultimate Universe and its Avengers-equivalent team are nearly endless, but one thing’s certain—this universe’s Iron Man is leading the charge in its new relaunch, for better or worse.
