One dream fight for comic book readers happens to be Invincible vs. Hulk. In theory, being divided by two different universes owned respectively by Image Comics and Marvel prevents this fantasy fight from ever taking place. Then again, that divide wasn’t enough to stop Invincible’s crossover with Spider-Man, or that time when he met the Avengers.

Still, maybe Invincible doesn’t need to fight the Incredible Hulk to find out which hero would come out on top since Mark Grayson’s universe already has its own version of the Avenger. In Invincible #117, Mark visits a comic book store, and in the background, readers can spot an orange-skinned Hulk lookalike known as Anger Man.

It’s a fun Easter egg that clearly nods to Marvel’s legendary brute. Even so, the moment doesn’t satisfy the lingering curiosity shared by every true believer who loves imagining superhero showdowns: who would win in a Hulk versus Invincible fight?

When trying to determine a clear winner between Hulk and Invincible, most fans will naturally compare their physical strength. As someone who is half-Viltrumite and half-human, Mark is inherently all-powerful. For comparison’s sake, his father, Omni-Man, is powerful enough to put the Hulk to shame, and Mark isn’t far off in power level. In fact, as the comics progress, it becomes increasingly clear that Mark slowly becomes stronger than his father. Hence, this adds weight to the argument that Invincible would come out on top in a battle against the Hulk.

Still, though, that factoid doesn’t automatically hand Invincible the win against the Hulk, as the Hulk cannot be underestimated. Many comics have reiterated that Hulk’s source of power is fueled by his anger, meaning that the more frustrated he gets in a fight, the more likely he is to motivate himself into an adrenaline-induced power play. That obviously wouldn’t be good news for anyone hoping to pick a fight with him, including Mark. Furthermore, the Hulk has only been using his minimum power, as he could get stronger if Bruce Banner ever decided to hit the gym.

In a test of strength, Invincible and Hulk aren’t necessarily evenly matched, but it’s more of a 50/50 toss-up dependent on Hulk’s anger and at what stage in his career, Mark is facing the giant. However, Mark does have one X-factor that gives him an edge: Invincible’s ability to fly. The character’s creators confirmed this, pointing out that Hulk’s inability to fly puts him at a serious tactical disadvantage. In contrast, Mark’s flight gives him a major edge, allowing him to evade Hulk’s most devastating attacks. In the end, Invincible might only need to take to the skies to win against the Hulk.
