Ant-Man star Judy Greer has addressed her absence as Maggie Lang in 2023’s Quantumania. The actor also shared what she would like to see happen to her character if she returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Greer touched on Maggie’s Quantumania absence during a recent interview with The Direct to promote her film The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. “I was in the last Guardians [of the Galaxy] as War Hog. War Pig, I believe, was my name in the last Guardians, but in the first two Ant-Man movies, I don’t… There’s been a lot of movies,” the actor began, noting how she still appeared in a 2023 Marvel movie despite not being part of the Ant-Man threequel. “But the reason, I don’t know why I wasn’t in Quantumania, by the way, but I went to the movie theater and saw it. I don’t know why they didn’t put me in it, but I really wanted to be in it. It’s so much fun.”

What If…? Season 3 Finally Fixes One Character the MCU Wasted
What If…? Season 3 brings Bill Foster back for another adventure–and fixes the character’s disappointing arc in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Quantumania raised the bar for the Ant-Man and the Wasp franchise, sending its titular pint-sized heroes into the Quantum Realm to face off against an Avengers-level threat, Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror. With most of the 2023 threequel taking place inside the Quantum Realm, several Ant-Man characters were not brought back, including Greer’s Maggie Lang. Other characters who were absent in Quantumania, but appeared in the first two Ant-Man movies, include Michael Peña’s Luis, Tip “T.I.” Harris’ Dave, Bobby Cannavale’s Jim Paxton, and David Dastmalchian’s Kurt, although Dastmalchian still appeared in the threequel as the voice of Quantum creature, Veb.
Judy Greer Wants Maggie Lang to Get Superpowers in the MCU
While Greer is unsure of her future in the MCU, she revealed that she has been trying (unsuccessfully) to convince Ant-Man trilogy director Peyton Reed to give Maggie superpowers. “I was begging for Peyton Reed for a superpower. I was like, ‘Please, please, can I, like, run into someone on the street and get a superpower? Please, please, please?'” she recalled. “And him and Paul [Rudd] would laugh at me, and then they never gave me one.”

One Ant-Man Character Returns in Thunderbolts*
With Ant-Man part of the MCU, the possibility is always there for characters to jump between the sub-franchises. Case in point, Hannah John-Kamen’s Ava Starr/Ghost, who debuted in 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, will be a major character in the upcoming Thunderbolts*. The character will be part of the initial lineup for the Thunderbolts, appearing on the team alongside Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova/Black Widow, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, David Harbour’s Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian, Olga Kurylenko’s Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster, and Wyatt Russell’s John Walker/U.S. Agent.
While marketing has so far done a pretty good job at hiding the movie’s villain, it is believed that Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, the current director of the CIA in the MCU, and Lewis Pullman’s Bob/Sentry will serve as the primary villains. Thunderbolts*, which Stan recently compared to The Breakfast Club, hits theaters on May 2, 2025.
The Ant-Man trilogy is streaming on Disney+.
