Daredevil: Born Again has seen the return of Charlie Cox to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and a new behind-the-scenes look at the series has revealed a comic-accurate costume that the hero will soon wear. Daredevil: Born Again‘s exciting cast of characters and gripping storylines have combined in a way that expertly blends comic book action with high-stakes drama. This has been so effective seemingly in part because the showrunners have a great understanding of Daredevil’s comics history, and have integrated that into the plot in unexpected ways.

Daredevil: Born Again has been renewed for season 2, and there appear to be plans to release new seasons consistently, without enormous gaps between them. I believe this sets up a promising future for Marvel, who has tended to make miniseries or leave large gaps between seasons. With the success of Born Again setting a great precedent for the future of Marvel Television, I can’t help but get excited about Daredevil’s new costume in this upcoming chapter of the series, and what it might mean for the show.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Set Photos Reveal Comics-Accurate Costume

Season 2 Of Born Again Will See Daredevil In A New Suit

Recent Daredevil: Born Again season 2 set photos reveal a promising early look at a new costume that Daredevil will wear in the show. The new suit is black, although it has streaks of red, suggesting that it may have been painted over. Perhaps most significantly, the suit shows the comics-accurate emblem of Daredevil, with two Ds across the hero’s chest. The photos show the suit in action alongside some tense developments on the street, suggesting a dark turn for the new season of the show.

With otherDaredevil: Born Again set photos suggesting Matt and Karen may go undercover, it seems the black suit could link to whatever the pair may be investigating. While black can help the hero to blend into the shadows, I can’t help but wonder if that is not what is intended here, with a pair of bright red Ds emblazoned on the uniform, and given Matt looks violent and excited in the new photos. While it may be difficult to understand the importance of this suit to the show this early on, it does harken back to many of the classic Daredevil comics.

Daredevil’s Black Costume Explained

Daredevil’s Shadowlands Costume Debuted In 2010

Daredevil has worn a number of different costumes in the comics, but one of the most popular in recent years has been the character’s Shadowlands outfit. In the comics, Daredevil became the leader of the Hand, and his stories became darker as he built a prison temple in Hell’s Kitchen. Daredevil acted violently in this street-level story, and took up a new uniform to match this new attitude. The costume was a mostly black suit, suggesting a new era for Daredevil stories.

Following in the path of his Man Without Fear costume, which was adapted in the original Netflix series as a makeshift uniform with a scarf wrapped around his eyes, this design reimagines the more traditional Daredevil uniform. This likely suggests that Daredevil: Born Again season 2 could see a new, most controversial outlook for the character, matching with the comic stories it comes from.

Daredevil’s Comics-Accurate Costume For Born Again Season 2 Looks Great

Daredevil Has Worn Many Suits In The Comics

Marvel has done a great job with adapting Daredevil’s various looks, both in the Netflix series and on Disney+. Daredevil’s costume in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law was a unique and original ode to the first suit that he wore in the comics, and his makeshift look in Netflix season 1 was an excellent adaptation of Frank Miller’s design. Since then, it has been great to see excellent, accurate, and practical iterations of the Daredevil uniform. However, this new costume is uniquely exciting.

I don’t know what would provoke Matt to ensure that the Daredevil logo is visible on his chest with this new suit, but I can’t deny that it looks great, and that it’s exciting to see such a comics-accurate look at the Daredevil suit finally appearing in this series. It has been 10 years since Daredevil first premiered on Netflix, and it is fascinating to see how the show and its hero have changed in that time. While the original iteration of the series took its time to get to the Daredevil costume, it is compelling to see that the suit Daredevil wears is still constantly changing and evolving.
