Galactus Is a Devourer of Worlds Is Galactus the Next MCU Big Bad? How Galactus Should the MCU
With all the flack that came from the Eternals film, it did provide us with something quite unnerving. The sheer size of the Celestials was enough to take the audience’s breath away. As Arishem peered down at our planet, it became clear that not only were there aliens, but there were enormous, old, and frighteningly destructive beings in the universe that we could not hope to conquer on our own.
However, there are rumors that even the Celestials fear a single being: Galactus. He is a being of immense purpose and power. Galactus has been one of the fiercest creatures in the history of Marvel Comics. He has often been at odds with The Fantastic Four. And he is coming to the MCU.
Galactus Is a Devourer of Worlds
Galactus is one of the oldest beings in the universe. He is actually older than the universe as he was born on the planet Taa in a previous version of our universe. At that time, his name was Galan, and when that universe ended, he was one of the final beings crushed into what scientists call the Big Crunch. However, when a new universe was created, and a new Big Bang happened, Galan was reborn in an almost fetal state. When he awoke, he was overwhelmed with hunger and found that it was sated by consuming a nearby world. In this way, he became Galactus, Devourer of Worlds.
Javier Bardem Could Join the MCU as Galactus in Fantastic Four
Among the many Fantastic Four rumors circulating right now, Javier Bardem being frontrunner to play the villain Galactus is top of the pile.
Galactus Has Been Stopped By The Fantastic Four
One of Galactus’ first appearances in Marvel Comics involved him reaching Earth and attempting to devour it. This was preceded by the arrival of his herald, the Silver Surfer. One of Galactus’ traits is that he always has a herald. This is a being who arrives at a planet and either prepares it or warns its inhabitants that Galactus is going to arrive.
In this earliest appearance, he is beaten back by Reed Richards, who threatens him with a device known as the Ultimate Nullifier. It has the power to destroy most of the universe and is the one thing that Galactus seems to truly fear. He would return multiple times, sometimes even as a temporary ally, but always with a hunger for our planet.
Is Galactus the Next MCU Big Bad?
We know Galactus will be involved in some way with The Fantastic Four. We just don’t know quite how or when. However, it can be certain that when he does join the MCU, it will involve the team. It should be noted that one of the most recent casting decisions was Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer. This role clinches the fact that the purple, godlike creature will appear at some point.
One of the big questions is whether he will appear in The Fantastic Four film or if he will simply be heralded by the Silver Surfer only to appear in a subsequent feature. The significance of Galactus’ arrival in the universe is something that many people are expecting, but few can pinpoint. Much of it has to do with how Marvel Studios decides to introduce The Fantastic Four and insert them into the main timeline.
How Galactus Should the MCU
Let’s start with The Fantastic Four. From all the images, leaks, and advice from Marvel Studios, the team will likely exist in an alternate universe in the 1960s. This was the time when the team was coming into their own in the comic books. Therefore, we can assume that they may be the only superheroes on their planet in their universe.
Add to this the fact that they are suddenly made aware of the fact that an alien being called the Silver Surfer has arrived to announce the coming of a world-ending creature who cannot be beaten. The creature arrives, and The Fantastic Four are unable to beat him, but at the last minute, Reed Richards is able to transport them to a different time and place. And that is when they end up in the present MCU timeline. And maybe something is coming.
Sydney Sweeney’s Madame Web Failure Shouldn’t Be the End of Her Marvel Career
Madame Web might have been a box office disappointment, but Marvel Studios should find a role for Sydney Sweeney in the MCU.
Out of Time
This plot twist allows the MCU to utilize a trope they’ve used before. Heroes displaced in time. It worked wonders for Captain America, whose frozen body was found decades after he fell through the ice in World War II. He was a fish out of water but became the leader of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, standing up to Thanos on a desolate battlefield.
But in our current MCU, something is going to happen. Galactus will inevitably arrive someday, and the newly arrived Fantastic Four are unwilling to give up another planet or universe to the World Eater. In fact, they have realized they have a certain amount of time before he arrives, and they plan on enlisting as many of their new hero friends as possible to fight and, this time, win.
Time and Space Are Constructs
If there is one thing we’ve learned from Marvel films, it is that anything can happen at any time. If going back in time is the only way to save the world, someone will figure out the technology on their hologram table in their living room on a relaxing evening. Therefore, if it takes a group of superheroes from not only the past but someone else’s past to stop a planet-killing threat, Marvel Studios has us covered.
This plot should also allow writers and producers to pull from a much wider landscape. If all heroes are from our timeline, someone must know about The Fantastic Four. There can only be so many secret societies on the planet before it looks like a John Wick free-for-all. Different realities offer endless possibilities. Unfortunately, they also mean that no matter what The Fantastic Four does, Galactus is inevitable. The Fantastic Four will arrive in theaters on July 25, 2025.
