The latest entry in a line of Transformers figures based on characters from the franchise’s comic books has been revealed. A mighty Decepticon warlord, this toy finally creates a comic-accurate look for a somewhat obscure Transformer.
As revealed by Hasbro Pulse, the Transformers Generations Comic Edition Decepticon Straxus toy is based on a character from the classic Marvel Comics Transformers series. Though not the first toy for the character, it is the first that brings his original design to life. It’s also one of several fan-oriented figures from throughout the franchise’s history that are being released as the brand turns 40 years old.

Straxus Jumps from Marvel Comics to Transformers Generation Toyline
Revealed as part of the livestream event for Hasbro and Hasbro Pulse in May 2024, Transformers Generations Comic Edition Decepticon Straxus is the third part of that subseries of the Transformers Generations line. Generations was a predecessor to the current Transformers: Legacy branding, with the line reimagining figures from various Transformers toyline with modern engineering and even styling. The Comic Editions of these figures have adapted the aesthetic and color scheme of the characters from the Marvel Comics Transformers book that launched alongside the classic Generation 1 cartoon. Straxus was a Decepticon that debuted in the comics and didn’t have a basis in the cartoon or original toyline.
Ironically, his alternate mode of a flying Cybertronian cannon heavily resembled Galvatron, the upgraded form of Megatron. Fittingly, Generations Straxus is a heavy retool of the Transformers: War for Cybertron: Kingdom Galvatron figure, which itself was recently re-released under the Legacy branding. Straxus transforms into a comic-accurate cannon and also features his signature pickaxe weapon, with his color scheme even evoking a “comic book” style. The box art for his toy is based on the cover of The Transformers #18, which contained the storyline “The Bridge to Nowhere!” inside. The figure is now available for pre-order through Hasbro Pulse for $54.99 USD and will be shipping by October 2024. This is the mold for a Straxus toy based on the comic book design, with a previous, far more stylized version that turned into a South African G6 Rhino tank released as part of the original Transformers Generations line.

Transformers’ 40th Anniversary Has Seen Several New Toys Revealed
Straxus is only one of the Transformers Generations Comic Edition line, with the two previous entries revealed earlier in 2024 (Comic Edition Shockwave and Grimlock) also being based on their Marvel Comics color schemes. These toys are being released as part of the line-wide celebration for the Transformers franchise, which is still going strong at 40 years old. Alongside these figures, other entries in the Transformers: Legacy line are being revealed and prepped to hit toy aisles. That’s along with other commemorative collectibles, including the Transformers: Missing Link toys for Bumblebee and Cliffjumper that adapt and update their original toys.
The franchise has recently been rebooted in comic book form by Skybound Entertainment through the shared “Energon Universe.” The publisher’s Transformers comic has been very well-received by fans and critics, with the book now set to enter its second year. Likewise, Skybound has announced a compendium for the classic Marvel Comics Transformers book, which is set to come out in February 2025. This is the first time in years that the series has been made available, and as shown by Straxus, it’s a vitally important part of the franchise’s history.
