As Chris Evans is making his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2026, new Avengers: Doomsday art shows what his new theorized variant may look like as a villain. Bringing Robert Downey Jr. back for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars wasn’t the only surprise that Marvel Studios had in store for the audience in 2024. After an earlier report this week that Chris Evans is back for Avengers: Doomsday, many are theorizing how he will actually factor into the Phase 6 film.

It didn’t take long for several talented graphic designers and artists to put together their pitches for what Evans’ Avengers: Doomsday return will potentially look like, especially with filming coming up in 2025. While Marvel Studio and Evans have yet to confirm his Avengers: Doomsday report, fans already have a pretty good idea of who he may be playing. Check out several examples below:

Since Downey Jr. will be portraying Victor von Doom, a.k.a. Doctor Doom, Bosslogic was one of many to lean into the concept of having Evans also play a villainous Steve Rogers variant. In his artwork, Evans is seen suited up as Hydra Supreme (also known as Hydra Captain America in the Marvel Comics fandom), showing a very sinister take on the beloved Avengers hero.

While it has yet to be revealed if Evans will even be from the same world as Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, AGT Design pitched the idea of his Hydra Captain America and Victor joining forces for Avengers: Doomsday. In the artwork, Doctor Doom is seen sitting on his famous throne with Evans’ corrupted Steve variant looming over him.

Spdrmnkyxxiii also agreed with the notion that Evans could be playing Hydra Captain America for Avengers: Doomsday, as the designer shared his MCU iteration of the evil Steve. Time will tell who Evans is actually playing in Avengers: Doomsday, as there is always the possibility that he plays more than one variant in the movie.

What The Chris Evans As Hydra Captain America In Avengers: Doomsday Art Means

While it may become clearer who Evans is playing in Avengers: Doomsday once principal photography starts in 2025, seeing multiple artwork pieces of him as Hydra Captain America shows how many want to see this concept come to fruition in live-action. The closest fans got was Steve uttering “Hail Hydra” in Avengers: Endgame while pretending to be undercover. If Marvel Studios wants to go big for Evans’ next MCU appearance, having him as a vicious version of Captain America would do the trick.

With Evans returning for Avengers: Doomsday after Avengers: Endgame, it wouldn’t be shocking at all if he is also set to appear in Avengers: Secret Wars, but with that aspect being kept heavily under wraps. Avengers: Secret Wars is, hypothetically, going to be the last time many of the long-time MCU actors are going to play their respective characters, since the film is rumored to set up a soft reboot of the franchise. If this ends up being the case, it would only make sense to have Evans in both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Our Take On The Chris Evans As Hydra Captain America In Avengers: Doomsday Art

Seeing Bosslogic, AGT Design, and Spdrmnkyxxiii’s tremendous work depicting Evans as Hydra Captain America showcases how easy it would be to take one of the MCU’s most beloved cast members and make them look completely villainous for the big screen. As heartbreaking as it would be for the Earth-616 heroes to have to face off with a twisted version of their former ally, it would also make for an incredibly intense story in Avengers: Doomsday. But for now, the world will have to wait and see who Evans is actually set to play in Avengers: Doomsday.
