Godzilla has faced some crazy opponents over the years. From duking it out with King Kong (multiple times) to battling his way through hell (yes, this actually happened) , the King of the Monsters has been through it all. Well, not quite. To that end, the folks at Marvel Comics are bringing a pretty wild crossover our way later this year in the form of Godzilla vs. Spider-Man. What happens when Peter Parker has to contend with a kaiju? We’re going to find out.

The book is part of the Godzilla vs. Marvel series, which was announced by Toho and Marvel earlier this year. It kicks off with Godzilla vs. Fantastic Four #1 on March 19, followed by Godzilla vs. Hulk #1 on April 16. Then comes Godzilla vs. Spider-Man #1 on April 30. The wild crossover hails from writer Joe Kelly (Deadpool, I Kill Giants) and artist Nick Bradshaw (The Thing, Star Wars: Inquisitors). As for what to expect from the book? Interestingly, it’s going back in time to just after the events of Secret Wars, one of Marvel’s most infamous crossover events of all time. Per the official synopsis…
“Fresh from the original Secret Wars, Peter Parker a.k.a The Amazing Spider-Man returns to Earth with a spiffy new (alien) costume without a care in the world except for a complicated love triangle with MJ and Black Cat…and unbelievable pressure at the Daily Bugle…rent…bills…super-villains…oh, and Godzilla is in New York City with all its destructive power aimed squarely at the wall-crawler! Don’t miss the two most popular characters in pop culture history absolutely going at it in this kaiju-sized slugfest for the ages!”
In addition to the main cover art for the book above, we’ve also got two variant covers for you to check out below. Kelly, speaking about the crossover, had this to say about it:
“The second I heard that there was going to be a Godzilla x Spidey crossover set in the ‘80s, I almost leapt across the table to claim it. This book is a chance to go nuts and have a blast with two iconic characters and channel the chaos of the time period that I was actively collecting Spider-Man. Nick Bradshaw really captures the absurdity of the concept and the vibe I was going for, while at the same time giving Godzilla and Spidey (in his perfectly-normal-nothing-weird-here-black suit!) the prestige and gravity they deserve. It’s a love letter served with an earth shattering roar!”
This isn’t the only crazy comic book series that Godzilla is going to be a part of this year either. IDW is also publishing Godzilla vs. America, which sees the monster headed to various cities across the U.S. That event kicks off in February with Godzilla vs. Chicago, which you can get a glimpse of right here. That’s the beauty of comic books. Whereas a movie centered around these concepts would be nearly impossible, logistically speaking, just about anything is possible in the pages of a comic.
