Marvel is giving Galactus a star-studded set of heralds in a brand new What If…? series.

Per Marvel Comics, a whole host of iconic superheroes are set to become the next Heralds of Galactus courtesy of five new one-shots in the next entry in the publisher’s long-running What If…? line of comics. Things begin on Jan. 1, 2025, with the release of What If…? Galactus Transformed Hulk #1 by writer Mat Groom and artist Lan Medina, which features some truly ferocious cover art by Ron Lim, who is providing the main covers for each issue in the series. The official synopsis for What If…? Galactus Transformed Hulk #1 reads, “Galactus has conscripted Earth’s strongest warrior – the Incredible Hulk – into his service. But what will turn out to be the bigger mistake: trying to direct the fury of the Green Goliath… or giving the great mind of Bruce Banner a cosmic problem to solve?”

The series continues on January 8 with What If…? Galactus Transformed Gambit #1 by writer Josh Trujillo and artist Manuel Garcia, which will send the fan-favorite mutant thief on an unbelievable heist with a little help from the Power Cosmic coursing through his already explosive veins. On January 15, writer Alex Segura and artists Scot Eaton and Cam Smith’s What If…? Galactus Transformed Moon Knight #1 take readers on a journey that will see Marc Spector dropped into the middle of a battle between the Devourer of Worlds and Khonshu. As the issue’s official synopsis explains, “To keep the peace, Moon Knight becomes the newest herald of Galactus – but his alters cause the Power Cosmic to manifest in startling new ways! Unless Moon Knight can conquer his new powers – and a few former heralds – the Earth itself faces extinction!”

On January 22, writer Ann Nocenti and artist Stephen Byrne’s What If…? Galactus Transformed Rogue #1 will follow the titular mutant hero as she absorbs the powers of the Silver Surfer, including his Power Cosmic. In doing so, Rogue imbues herself with “unimaginable power – but also the burden of serving as Galactus’ new herald.” The final issue in the series (by writer Kalinda Vazquez and artist Daniel Picciotto) will see Gwen Stacy come to the aid of the Devourer of Worlds in a rare time of need, only to become the latest of his heralds for her trouble. What If…? Galactus Transformed Spider-Gwen #1 will hit store shelves on January 29.

Throughout the years, Galactus has become a far more complex and nuanced character, one currently awaiting his Marvel Cinematic Debut as portrayed by Ralph Ineson in the upcoming Fantastic Four: First Steps feature film starring Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.

What If…? Galactus Transformed Hulk #1 is on sale Jan. 1, 2025. New issues are released every Wednesday throughout January.
