According to a new report, the working title for Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four reboot has been revealed.

Per The Cosmic Circus, the project is in development with the working title “Blue Moon.” While this may at first sound like a musical biopic for the classic doo-wop group The Marcels, the “Blue Moon” title may be a subtle clue about the plans for the Fantastic Four movie. Sometimes, working titles are completely irrelevant to the specific project, but they can also often be references to plot elements. With that in mind, it’s possible, though notably not confirmed, that the film will touch on the “Blue Area of the Moon” established by Marvel Comics.

Fantastic Four Director Talks Casting the New First Family: ‘Chemistry Is Super Important’

In comic book lore, the Blue Area of the Moon is an artificially-created environment in the Luther Crater. It is discovered by the Fantastic Four, where they uncover the ruins of an alien city along with the Citadel of Uatu the Watcher; they also have their first battle with the Red Ghost there. The Skrulls, recently featured prominently in Secret Invasion, created the Blue Area of the Moon a million years prior as a testing site for the Kree. It was later left abandoned when the Kree rebelled and escaped in a Skrull starship. The location has since been featured many times in various Marvel comic books.

There have been rumors that Galactus will be featured as the big bad in Fantastic Four, perhaps with Antonio Banderas in the role. Notably, Uatu the Watcher had warned the Fantastic Four about Galactus, and this all ties into the rumored working title of “Blue Moon.” This could also mean that the live-action Uatu will be introduced in the MCU with an appearance in Fantastic Four after making animated appearances in I Am Groot and What If…?, where he was voiced by Jeffrey Wright. Of course, this is all just speculation at this time, as no official plot details or information about any included characters has been confirmed by Marvel Studios at this time.

Why Marvel’s Fantastic Four Will Work Without an Origin Story

What we do know about the movie is that it will be directed by Matt Shakman, who previously helmed WandaVision. Avatar franchise and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes writer Josh Friedman is also on board to write the script. No casting announcements have yet been made, though there hasn’t been a shortage of rumors in that department, either.

Fantastic Four is currently scheduled to be released in movie theaters on May 2, 2025.
