After Matt Murdock was sentenced to prison during Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto’s run on Daredevil, Matt cut a deal with his longtime love interest, Elektra, for her to take over for him as the Daredevil of Hell’s Kitchen. She agreed, and even though Matt has since returned to become Daredevil, Elektra has remained in the role, and now, she has a new miniseries that is pushing the boundaries of what kind of gore a Marvel comic book can depict, and CBR has an exclusive preview of the first issue of Daredevil: Unleash Hell.

Daredevil: Unleash Hell #1 is from writer Erica Schultz, artist Valentina Pinti (plus a few pages by the art team of José Luis and Jonas Trindade, who apparently may be sharing the art duties on the series with Pinti, as they are listed for the second issue, as well), colorist Dee Cunniffe, and letterer Cory Petit. It is part of Marvel’s new “Red Band” series of books, polybagged comic books that contain an R-rated level of violence and gore.

Charlie Cox Says Daredevil: Born Again Is ‘Even Darker’ than the Netflix Show

Charlie Cox promises Daredevil: Born Again will be a grittier revival of Netflix’s Matt Murdock.

The preview pages open with Daredevil on patrol, as Elektra reflects on the name of her new stomping grounds, specifically the origin of why it is CALLED “Hell’s Kitchen.” This, of course, will tie into a plotline that Schultz is setting up, but we won’t see in these specific preview pages (where Elektra will come into conflict with some actual beings from hell).

We see Daredevil taking out a bunch of drug producers, and we see her reflect on one of the conditions of her taking over as Daredevil, she had to promise Matt that she would no longer kill. However, Elektra knows how to make people almost view death as a mercy. We shall see how her skills can handle demonic forces, though, when this comic book comes out next week.
