Marvel promises a climactic Spider-Verse story, introducing new Spider-Person variants.

Marvel’s beloved Spider-Verse continues to expand as Madame Web recruits Miguel O’Hara to lead the largest ever assembled group of webslinging heroes in Spider-Society. Faced with a deadly threat, Spider-Heroes from across the Multiverse will need to form a team unlike any other, as iconic characters like Spider-Ham, Ghost Spider, and Jessica Drew work together to save reality.

The Spider-Society story has been building since the explosive End of the Spider-Verse storyline from last year, and has been set up in the pages of Edge of Spider-Verse (2024) and the Web of Spider-Man one-shot, with Marvel calling it the “final evolution of the saga.”

Spider-Society, from writer Alex Segura and artist Scott Godlewski, sees the titular team of Spider-Men fighting against the Sinister Squadron, a never-before-seen crew of Spider-Villains led by a Multiversal Gwen Stacy variant of the Green Goblin. Spider Society will feature countless new and old spider heroes, many of which are highlighted in gorgeous covers from Pete Woods and Artgerm.

In addition to heroes, SPIDER-SOCIETY will introduces a wild cadre of Spider-Villains from the Multiverse known as the Sinister Squadron. It’s a grouping of villains like you’ve never seen, and to defend the very fabric of the universe, Madame Web will recruit every Spider-Hero there ever was for an unprecedented war that will redefine the web of life!

It’s every Spider-Character you love (and some you haven’t met yet)! May the first meeting of the Spider-Society commence! That’s right, every Spider-Person will be in the same room for the craziest assembly the Multiverse has ever seen!

A Spider Society Must Form To Fight The Sinister Squadron

The Multiverse has been saved by the denizens of the Spider-Verse enough times that many of the major heroes – like Miguel O’Hara, Silk, and Spider-Man Noir – are in direct communication with each other, and Madame Webb. Julia Carpenter, the precognitive Madame, has a history of using her abilities to inspire spider heroes to fight, like when she helped to form the Order of the Web to battle Kindred. Web of Spider-Man saw Carpenter recruiting Miguel O’Hara, telling him he needs to form a Spider-Society to fight a grave threat before Miguel is attacked and nearly defeated by the Gwen Goblin, saved in the last moment by Araña.

The current run of Edge of Spider-Verse explored more of Weapon XIII’s background, a variant of Peter Parker who was taken by the Weapon X program and turned into a weapon, much like Wolverine. Madame Webb makes it clear to Miguell that Weapon XIII, along with heroes like Araña, Spider-UK, and the traditional Earth-616 Spiders like Peter and Miles, will all play major roles in the war against the Sinister Squadron. The upcoming Edge of Spider-Verse #4 will introduce the Jessica Drew variant who debuted in the Across the Spider-Verse into the world of comics, making this Spider-Woman a key part of the Spider-Society. Plus, Marvel will introduce even more new Spider-Man variants, although they already have too many to count.

Gwen Stacy Makes For A Terrifying Spider-Man Villain

Gwen Stacy is a permanent feature in Spider-Man comics, even though her Earth-616 variant died at the Green Goblin’s hands many, many years ago. Although Earth-65’s Gwen Stacy has had a lot of recent experience fighting evil variants of herself as Ghost Spider, it will still be fascinating to see heroes with emotional connections to Gwen Stacy forced to fight a villainous version of the young woman.

Marvel promises that the climactic Spider-Verse story will “redefine the web of life,” potentially setting up the next several years of stories within the ever-expanding world of Spider-Man. Make sure your web shooters are loaded up… the Sinister Squadron is coming for the Spider-Society.
