Sometimes, a character’s name is used for a minor character or a background character, with little to no references to their superhero alter ego or life. For example, in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Cindy Moon is credited as one of Peter Parker’s classmates, but she doesn’t seem to have any spider powers and certainly never shows up as Silk. Despite this, we still included Cindy and many other characters as official appearances in the films, despite not showing up in any real way.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One

Phase One saw the release of the first and second Iron Man films, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, and Captain America: The First Avenger. All these films paved the way for the superhero team-up epic, The Avengers.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase Two

Phase two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings with it the final solo Iron Man film, but introduces us to the broader universe with Guardians of the Galaxy, Thor: The Dark World, and then back to the harsh realities of the world with Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase Three

After years of build-up, the Infinity Saga finally comes to a conclusion with the events of Avengers: Infinity War and the snap heard across the universe, and then with Avengers: Endgame, where all of time and space are rewound to fix everything.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase Four

While the world tries to adjust back to some semblance of normalcy, some weird stuff starts to happen in the MCU. Ancient weapons return in Shang-Chi, while even older immortal beings become known with the Eternals (not to mention a giant Celestial popping out of the ocean that the MCU refuses to acknowledge).

The Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase Five

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently in its fifth phase, building up to another massive crossover event designed around Kang the Conqueror. While there are still plenty of films and tie-ins coming, here are all the characters introduced so far.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe: Tie-Ins

There is more to the MCU than just the films, there are television shows, tie-ins, short films, and more that depict other comic book characters in one way or another. The slightly confusing thing about Marvel’s many side projects and TV shows is the continuity. Some shows were canon and then were ripped out, while others were taken in and made canon afterward.
