Elizabeth Olsen is still very much interested in returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to play the live-action version of Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch. That iteration of the character last appeared in the franchise in the 2022 feature Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Variants of the character, voiced also by Olsen, appeared in a couple of episodes of What If…? and will be part of the upcoming Marvel Zombies.
Olsen appeared in a recent episode of The Playlist’s The Discourse podcast and disclosed that she wanted to play an older version of Wanda with “a big, massive white wig” and “gnarly face of wrinkles.” She elaborated, “You know, when I think about my dream version [of Wanda], it’s like 50 years later, and I have white hair— such a big, massive white wig—and gnarly face of wrinkles doing like a Tracy Ullman thing. And I am just like a creature that they find. And that’s how I imagine Wanda’s next journey.”
Olsen stated that she even “literally pitched” the idea, adding, “Because it would be so fun to get to do that to me. I mean, I guess in one of the comics, she ages quite quickly, and I think those are the images that are implanted in my brain next because I haven’t done it.”
It was hinted in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness that Wanda had died. In the same interview, Olsen indicated that her character’s villainous turn was planned from the beginning by divulging that she wasn’t part of the reshoots for the movie. She also stated that it was a “fun opportunity” to play that side of Wanda.
“It was an interesting turn, but one that I was excited to take and…really kind of relish in it instead of tiptoe into it,” Olsen explained, adding, “I thought it was kind of something delicious. I thought it was a fun opportunity.”
Marvel Zombies is scheduled for release on October 3, 2025, on Disney+.
