Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Infinity Watch #3! Doctor Doom famously bows before no one, especially at his current power level as the Marvel Universe’s new Sorcerer Supreme. However, during his latest Marvel Comics appearance, Victor von Doom is on his knees before another powerful villain, and while he’s showing him the ultimate sign of respect and submission, Doom says the words, “Victor von Doom bows before you”. Who could this other villain be to make Doctor Doom pledge his undying loyalty and service?
In a preview for Infinity Watch #3 by Derek Landy and Enid Balám, the newly-formed Infinity Watch, consisting of the Stone Bearers for each of the seven Infinity Stones have found themselves in a new reality thanks to the actions of the Reality Stone Bearer, Star, in the previous issue.
Star was attempting to trap a villain named Avery Zavala in a pocket dimension of her own creation before he succeeded in murdering every member of the Infinity Watch. Zala is a Stone Bearer from another universe whose reality was destroyed. He came to Earth-616 to steal the Infinity Stones and overwrite his universe onto this one. But now, Zala is trapped in a pocket dimension, and his plans have momentarily been foiled. However, Zala’s influence helped write the design of the pocket dimension, and he made it that every supervillain in Marvel was his follower – including and especially Doom.
Avery Zavala is the Only Villain Doctor Doom Bows Before
It Took the Creation of an Original Universe for Doom to Bow Before Someone
The sight of Doctor Doom bowing before someone else is incredibly shocking since it’s been firmly established in Marvel Comics that “Doom bows before no one”. Yet, in the opening panel of this comic issue, Doom is seen bowing before Avery Zavala – a multiversal villain capable of laying waste to an entire universe for the sole purpose of rebuilding another one. Indeed, if there was ever going to be a villain who Doom bowed before, someone as powerful as Zavala makes sense.
That being said, there is one important detail to keep in mind: this isn’t the real Doctor Doom – this isn’t even a variant of Doctor Doom. This version of Doom exists in a pocket dimension created by a combination of Star and Zavala’s imagination with the power of the Reality Stone. This is a pathetic copy of Doctor Doom, one who is unworthy of holding that title. In fact, the very act of stealing Doom’s form and making it a sniveling slave is an insult the real Doctor Doom may not stand for.
Infinity Watch Teases the REAL Doctor Doom’s Involvement
Doctor Doom Should Kill Zavala for this Insult
While Doctor Doom hasn’t been involved in this Infinity Watch storyline, the fact that this version of Doom made an appearance teases his eventual involvement. Plus, as the Sorcerer Supreme and current ruler of Earth, someone as powerful as Zavala will need to be dealt with if the Infinity Watch isn’t up to the task. Therefore, there’s a fair chance that Doctor Doom – the real Doctor Doom – will come into this story. And, if he does, Doom should kill Zavala for this unforgivable insult.

Doctor Doom and the Thunderbolts are about to make their MCU debut, which is why it’s interesting that Doom admits to liking one member in the comics.
However, even though this isn’t the real Doctor Doom, and this entire story is taking place in a different reality that has just been constructed by the power of the Reality Stone, the fact remains: Doctor Doom names the one Marvel villain better than him – and that villain better hope the real Doctor Doom never finds out.
