Diamond goes to Alliance, again.
DC announces Immortal Legend Batman.
Marvel kills The Immortal Thor.
This is Comic Book Club News for April 14, 2025.
It’s been a weird few weeks for the comic book industry, but it looks like the bankruptcy sale of Diamond Comics Distributors has finally been settled: the bulk of the company’s assets will go to Alliance Entertainment. Probably.
Four parts of Diamond, Diamond Comic Distributors, Alliance Game Distributors, Diamond Select Toys & Collectibles, and Collectible Grading Authority were all declared for Alliance Entertainment on Friday, per ICv2. This is after a lot of weird back and forth between Diamond, a consortium of other companies, and a lawsuit by Alliance.
There are some open questions, though. The closing is set for April 25, so will there be more twists and turns? And what about the other eight assets up for sale, including Diamond UK and FreeComicBookDay.com? The status of those are TBA, though hopefully will be snapped up soon.
For the moment, though, welcome our new Alliance overlords.
DC Comics is bringing a taste of the Massive-verse to the DCU with Immortal Legend Batman, a new “superhero tokusatsu” written by Kyle Higgins, with art by Dan Mora.
Co-written by Mat Groom, with additional art by Erica D’Urso, the Elseworlds title will run six issues and hit stores in August. In the series, the team will combine superhero storytelling with elements of the Japanese “tokusatsu” genre, which includes everything from sci-fi and fantasy to kaiju.
Said Higgins, “Certain projects are the perfect storm of timing, idea and creative team. Immortal Legend Batman has been years in the making, dating back to stunning designs that Mat and I first saw from Dan Mora. Obviously, we have a love and appreciation for Tokusatsu, and it’s influence on our books like Radiant Black and Inferno Girl Red. The opportunity to bring that love to a very unique version of Gotham… makes this beyond a perfect storm.”
The series will also include new sci-fi takes on Robin, Nightwing, the Batplane, and more. Immortal Legend Batman #1 hits stores on August 27.
As previously teased by Marvel, The Immortal Thor is gonna die. In Immortal Thor #25 by Al Ewing and Jan Bazaldua, Thor dies… And then a few months later the title will relaunch with a new number one, also from Ewing.
Here’s the synopsis, per Marvel: “At the end of his tale, Thor strode into Vidblainn, third land of the dead, whence nothing could return. And there, beyond all battles, beyond all cares, he stood and fought for justice one last time – against the great Serpent who wore his own face and held his own hammer. This was the story of the IMMORTAL THOR…and the deciding of his fate.”
Immortal Thor #25, the final issue until the next one, will hit stores on July 2.
