Warning: Spoilers for Daredevil: Unleash Hell – Red Band #3!As the mantle of Daredevil continues to evolve, so must that of the villain Muse. Viewers of Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+ are finding themselves introduced to the series’ antagonist, Muse. Muse is still a relatively new character in the scope of Marvel’s comics, having debuted in Marvel’s comics less than a decade ago, but he’s already made an impact both onscreen and on-panel.

Daredevil: Unleash Hell – Red Band #3 – written by Erika Schultz, with art by Valentina Pinti – expands Muse’s comic book lore, as Elektra, operating at Daredevil, is set to square off against a new version of the dangerous villain.

Introducing a new Muse into the Marvel canon feels timely, as Muse debuts for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For longtime comic book fans, it evokes a simultaneous evolution for Daredevil and Muse, expanding their respective legacies in unexpected ways; with Elektra becoming as popular of a Daredevil as Matt Murdoch himself, it is fitting that she should get her own Muse to go up against.

A New Muse Debuts In Marvel Comics As The Original Grabs Attention In The MCU’s New Daredevil Series

In his original iteration, Muse already proved to be one of Daredevil’s most sadistic villains. Following the death of the original, a new Muse replaced him through Morgan Whittier. From beyond the grave, Muse’s spirit tempted the impressionable, sensitive artist during a vulnerable moment to kill in his honor with the promise of showing her truth through art, paving the way for her bloody debut as the new Muse. The two have been on a spiritual killing spree ever since, and after sending a creative message to Elektra, the new Daredevil fought the new Muse.

Since his first appearance, Muse has remained an utterly elusive and mysterious character, to the point that even in death, his origins, face, and identity have never been revealed, at least not entirely.

Introducing a new Muse manages to progress the character and his legacy in ways that hadn’t been achieved with the original Muse. Since his first appearance, Muse has remained an utterly elusive and mysterious character, to the point that even in death, his origins, face, and identity have never been revealed, at least not entirely. While such an ominous approach makes for a mysterious character, mystery can only progress a character so far. There was nowhere to grow for a faceless killer motivated solely by art with no background, whereas the opposite can be said for Morgan.

Marvel’s New Muse Is The Latest Exciting Evolution For The Daredevil Franchise

Their Hero & Villain Legacies Become More Intertwined

It’s especially fitting to see Muse experience a new evolution for his legacy as Daredevil is experiencing his own, what with Elektra coming into her own under the mantle. Both Daredevil and Muse have gender-swapped counterparts. Admittedly, Elektra’s tenure as Daredevil is just the latest chapter in the long-standing history and relationship they share, but nevertheless, it makes her more comparable to Matt Murdock than ever. Much like Morgan is doing for Muse, Elektra has evolved the readers’ understanding of whatDaredevil can and should be, making it all the more exciting to see how Marvel does the same for the new Muse.

Daredevil: Unleash Hell – Red Band #3 will be available March 19, 2025 from Marvel Comics.
