Out of all of Marvel’s heroes, Daredevil is typically one of the darkest they have to offer. Not exactly as upbeat as Spider-Man or as awe-inspiring as the Avengers, Daredevil has been through a lot, and he has tons of different dark designs to reflect these eras. Marvel has never really gone dark enough though, and one talented artist just revealed exactly how terrifying Daredevil’s design can be.
This amazing new redesign comes from the talented artist Tom Hoskisson(tomhoskissonart). Hoskisson has demonstrated an incredible flair for redesigns, having redone several of Batman and Spider-Man’s rogues in the past. But this new Daredevil design is unlike anything fans have seen before. This art takes the “devil” part of Daredevil’s moniker to new heights, transforming him into almost a hobgoblin-like creature.
This new design is a perfect blend of Daredevil’s iconic red and yellow suits, merging them into a single look. Not only that, but Daredevil gains real horns, pointed ears, and leaking blood from his face and eyes. It’s a truly disturbing look that would terrify any criminal who decides to enter Hell’s Kitchen. As far as Daredevil looks go, it’s one of the best, and it is significantly better and more intimidating than the past designs that Marvel has tried to give Daredevil, which have more often than not ended up looking goofy instead of threatening.
They Look more Goofy Than Threatening
There’s been a few times that Marvel has attempted to show off an evil Daredevil design. One of those attempts was when Daredevil was taken over by the King in Black during the massive crossover event. This resulted in Daredevil gaining some goofy horns, matching “armor” and a ridiculous smile. It wasn’t that scary, and it didn’t last that long, as Daredevil quickly lost the symbiote that had taken him over. With that, he lost this silly design as well, and it hasn’t been seen since, but it’s far from the worst design that an evil Daredevil has had.
Another example of Daredevil becoming a monster was during the time he led The Hand. Daredevil attempted to take over this ancient ninja cult as a way of controlling it and to prevent The Kingpin from gaining control of it. Unfortunately for Daredevil, the Hand proved to be more difficult to control than he expected. The cult actually wanted Daredevil to be their leader, so they could corrupt him. This resulted in one of the goofiest designs that Daredevil has ever had, made especially worse by the fact that Marvel expected fans to take it seriously, despite the fact Daredevil had ridiculous goat horns.

This Was Daredevil’s Worst Look
After Daredevil took over The Hand, he slowly started becoming corrupted by the cult. This resulted in Daredevil being possessed by The Beast, the dark god of The Hand. This ended up with Daredevil slowly becoming darker and darker in his actions, and his costume changed to match. Instead of the iconic red or even yellow, he became dark blue, and slowly his costume morphed even more. Finally, transforming him to the point that he had large goat-like horns and claws. While this definitely got across the “demonic” look that Marvel was going for, it still came off as just over-the-top silly and wasn’t intimidating in the least.
That’s one of the places where Hoskisson’s art excels. Daredevil still looks like Daredevil, but he is also unmistakably a monster. Something that isn’t human. The design of Hoskisson’s Daredevil looks like skin, not a suit. With no visible seams on it. It’s a fantastic design and that brings to life just how horrifying Daredevil could be if Marvel wanted to go that far. It honestly wouldn’t look out of place if this Daredevil design was one of the Goblins that Spider-Man often fights.
Matt Murdock Can Truly Be A Devil
Daredevil’s design has changed over the years tons of times. He’s had yellow, red, and even an armored black look. But the darker designs have always failed to catch readers’ attention. No one cosplays Goat-Devil at conventions, nor do they really cosplay Daredevil’s Black Knight form. There’s a reason for this, mostly being that they simply look ridiculous, but there’s no doubt that someone could cosplay this new Daredevil and it would likely look stunning. It’s a fantastic piece of work that Tom Hoskisson has created, and it shows that there is plenty of potential for Daredevil’s designs that Marvel has yet to explore.
