Daredevil is an established hero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and his new series, Daredevil: Born Again, has set up the perfect opportunity for the hero to fulfill a role audiences have hoped for several years. With four episodes of Born Again having streamed on Disney+, the show has already become one of the most beloved MCU properties in recent years. Seeing Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio return to their beloved roles in the Daredevil: Born Again cast has been rewarding, and has set up this compelling future.
The interactions between Daredevil and the rest of the Marvel Universe have been unusual. Spider-Man has been mentioned in a Daredevil: Born Again Easter Egg, but for the most part, the show seems to take place separate from the larger MCU events. With that in mind, there are still untold stories that audiences want to see that integrate the larger universe and some of its characters. The series has recently set up the perfect way to do exactly that, but in a new and unexpected way.
Daredevil Being An MCU Mentor Has Been A Fan Hope For Years
Audiences Have Wanted To See Daredevil Assist A Younger Hero
Daredevil was mentored by Stick, and audiences have since wanted to see him take on the role of mentor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite not appearing in the franchise for several years, Daredevil is now one of the more experienced heroes in the franchise. With many younger heroes joining the series – especially with the new Young Avengers team assembling – and several of these characters living and operating in New York like Murdock, Daredevil has a chance to integrate with the larger universe, and provide a mentorship role to other heroes.
Daredevil has learned a lot, and his wisdom and teachings could be helpful for many new heroes. Having dealt with heavy losses, including Elektra and more recently Foggy Nelson, Daredevil has much insight to offer to a new generation of heroes. This could apply in relationships with characters like Ms. Marvel, America Chavez, or many others. However, several of these already have mentor figures, which could complicate this. As a result – and because of their prominence as two of Marvel’s biggest comic heroes – many have hoped to see Daredevil share the screen with Spider-Man in this regard.
Daredevil Would Be A Great MCU Mentor (But The Spider-Man Theories Have A Different Problem)
Spider-Man Needs To Tell His Own Stories
Spider-Man is still young in the MCU, but he has already had several mentors throughout the years. In fact, Peter being mentored in the Spider-Man franchise has become a bit stale, with Iron Man, Doctor Strange, and even Mysterio having been posed as mentor figures to Peter. Spider-Man needs his own stories, and it would be difficult to have Daredevil take on any kind of authority role over the character. Even Spider-Man’s powers would be difficult for Matt Murdock to give real help with, making this opportunity seem unlikely.
Even Norman Osborn has been Spider-Man’s mentor in recent Marvel stories, and the Spider-Verse films have also told these kinds of stories with Miles Morales. While a live-action Miles Morales needs to be introduced in the franchise, it makes more sense for Peter Parker to be his mentor in becoming a superhero. Other than this, there are no Spider-people in the series who would make sense for Matt Murdock to teach. However, Born Again has set up for the character to mentor someone else entirely.
Daredevil: Born Again Episode 4 Opens A Perfect Chance For Cox’s Hero To Mentor Another Marvel Character
Angela Del Toro Becomes An Important Marvel Character
Angela Del Toro is introduced in Daredevil: Born Again, and the character could become an important part of the story as time goes on. In the series, Angela received the White Tiger amulet after the death of her uncle, and was given some comfort by Matt Murdock. This sets up an important dynamic between the two characters, as there is a comic book precedent for this character and for this relationship. It seems likely that the new Daredevil series could go into that story in the near future.
After the death of Hector Ayala, Marvel’s first White Tiger, Angela takes up the amulet and the mantle. In the comics, this led to her being taken under Daredevil’s wing, where he was able to provide support and training to her on how to be a superhero. While it is unclear if this will be followed in the MCU, the franchise is setting up for an excellent opportunity that could see a strong relationship forged between the two characters, and thus could lead to Matt finally being able to mentor a younger hero.

Daredevil: Born Againhas made some great choices with its characters, and has pulled from a number of compelling comic book stories. While the series is not slavishly dedicated to following every detail of those stories, it seems fairly likely that Daredevil may get to serve as the mentor to this new White Tiger in the near future. Whether that happens in this series, or in another Young Avengers project, it’s exciting that Daredevil may finally be given the chance to go from mentee to mentor across the course of his live-action story.
