The history of Captain America is adding a new dark chapter, and Steve Rogers has an oustanding new stealth suit designed for this off-the-books mission. And if the MCU version of Cap is the one fans think of first, this new uniform is going to be a major surprise.
The news of a bold new story for Steve Rogers was announced alongside the new creative team, with Chip Zdarsky, Valerio Schiti, and Frank Martin launching Captain America #1 this July. Taking place in the rarely-explored first days of Steve Rogers’ return from his frozen suspension, Marvel revealed this is actually the superhero’s first mission in the modern era, charged with infiltrating Latveria to face Doctor Doom. That mission calls for a tailor-made stealth Captain America uniform, now visible in all its glory in cover art by Ben Harvey:
Packed with bold, relevant insights into Captain America’s role and legacy as he learns just how much the world has changed in his absence, this top secret conflict will come back to haunt all involved when the series progresses into present-day storylines. In addition, fans can look forward to Cap suiting up in an all-new stealth uniform and leading an all-new group of Howling Commandos.

The first concept sketches of Captain America’s costumes in the coming series was also released, showing artist Valerio Schiti’s new (and classic) designs, including not only a change in color scheme for Steve Rogers, but a new clipped Captain America logo, too. The impact of a subduued, seemingly grayscale costume speaks volumes on its own, as Steve Rogers shifts from a poster boy for the WWII-era United States to black ops. But with the newly released cover art, the color scheme finally makes perfect sense.

One of The MCU’s Most Powerful Captain America Scenes Was Left Out of The Movies
The MCU missed out on a major opportunity to include one little detail that adds so much more to Captain America’s character arc in “Winter Soldier.”
In the cover art for Captain America #2 by Ben Harvey, Captain America is attempting to navigate a dimly-lit and snow-filled forest, simultaneously explaining when the Latveria mission will be set, and why Steve’s gray/black color scheme qualifies as “stealth” in this environment. Obviously the red accents are more of a branding decision than a camouflage one, but with his signature shield gleaming at his side, the concept of subtlety only goes so far for a man like Captain America.
Fortunately, it appears that Steve’s presence will be immediately detected by Doctor Doom, promising this first encounter will also be a memorable one. Obviously there is no time like the present to reveal a new insight into the Marvel history of Doctor Doom, considering the villain is currently taking over the world in the main universe. But with plot details teasing that this never-before-seen mission will have impact on the future, expect this tale to apply to the ongoing One World Under Doom event, and Cap’s unknown role in it.
Captain America #2 will be available in August 2025 from Marvel Comics.
