In the Captain America: Brave New World featurette, Mackie discusses how he came “to set every day with a smile on his face because we’re making Captain America,” He continued, “Being handed the shield, it just means a lot to me. It’s personal.”
He also said of working with Ford, “Harrison was cool and he was great. It was really interesting to see him sculpting a character in a world this big. I couldn’t put a price on that lesson.”
Ford added, “I had seen actors in the Marvel movies have a really good time. I thought, ‘Well. Maybe I ought to get me some of that.’”
Kevin Feige, who also appears in the video, said, “[Sam] has made that decision to become unabashedly Captain America. And Harrison Ford playing President Ross is one of the many pinch yourself moments.”
The ending of the video further teases “so many surprises” left in store for fans when Captain America: Brave New World hits United States theaters on February 14, 2025, as part of Phase Five of the MCU.
“Anthony Mackie returns as the high-flying hero Sam Wilson, who’s officially taken up the mantle of Captain America,” the synopsis for the movie reads. “After meeting with newly elected U.S. President Thaddeus Ross, Sam finds himself in the middle of an international incident. He must discover the reason behind a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red.”
