Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman were joined by many other big names from the history of Marvel movies for their new film Deadpool & Wolverine.
In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, B-movie king and Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell had a special role as the Pizza Poppa characters. It was his first MCU movie, though Campbell had long been a Marvel vet, having appeared in all three installments of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. While at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 to speak about his new Peacock series Hysteria!, Campbell explained to ComicBook.com that Pizza Poppa was absent in Deadpool & Wolverine because the character is in a “different timeline.” The sarcastic actor then shared a cheeky response to getting left out of the film by taking a jab at Reynolds and the actor’s “bromance” with Jackman.
Bruce Campbell Shares What Felt ‘Weird’ About Playing Elvis in Bubba Ho-Tep
Bruce Campbell says one aspect of playing Elvis Presley felt weird at the time.
“He’s not in that timeline. He’s in a different timeline,” Campbell said. “Well, here’s what I say to Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. Get a room. What’s with the bromance? We get it. Thank you. Next. Go back to your soccer team, Ryan.”

One actor who did have a role in Deadpool & Wolverine is Nathan Fillion, who voiced the Headpool variant seen briefly in the film. This meant that Fillion has played four different characters in Marvel-based movies, a fact which brought some attention to the actor. However, Campbell pointed out that he has also appeared in four Marvel movies, given his prior cameos in the Spider-Man films before making his debut as Pizza Poppa in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Previously, Campbell teased that there was something much bigger going on with his Marvel movie characters, hinting that he’d be back in the MCU soon enough.
Tim Curry’s Acting Return Has Bruce Campbell Calling for On-Screen Reunion
Bruce Campbell wants to work with Tim Curry on a feature film for the third time.
“The cameos are like, in the Spider-Man movies — if you know anything about the multiverse, you know now, retroactively, I’m in the multiverse now because of Doctor Strange,” Campbell told ComicBook.com in 2023. “I’m not a pizza vendor, OK? That would be a massive mistake to think I’m just a pizza vendor, or an usher, or a ring announcer, or a maître d’. It’s called the multiverse, my friend. So, yes, he is the same character, but we don’t know who he really is. It has not been revealed yet. I just got off the phone with the guys at Marvel, and we’re getting close to finding out.”
For now, time will tell if and when Campbell makes another Marvel movie appearance. As there are rumors that Raimi may return to Marvel to direct another film, it’s possible that the two could reunite once again for a new MCU project. Meanwhile, Campbell can be seen in his new series, Hysteria!, which premieres on Peacock on Oct. 18.
