Captain Marvel and Black Cat aren’t a duo you often see in Marvel comics, but two cosplayers have just proven that the publishing company seriously needs to explore this unlikely team-up more. By recreating a variant cover featuring Carol Danvers and Felicia Hardy, these two fans have delivered a dual live-action debut of these characters—one we didn’t even know we needed.

Recreating this iconic variant cover is also the ultimate compliment and tribute to Carnero and Sánchez’s original work…

Taïr Hamou (@paper.moon.cosplay on Instagram) transforms into Spider-Man’s iconic Black Cat, while Susie Creates (@susie_creates_cosplay on Instagram) takes on the mantle of Captain Marvel, the rising star in the Marvel Universe.

Together, these two creators have brought to life an incredibly rare cosplay—not just because we rarely see these two characters together, but because they’ve perfectly recreated the one-of-a-kind Captain Marvel #4 variant cover by Carmen Carnero and Alejandro Sánchez, down to the smallest detail. This variant cover is iconic on its own, but seeing it brought to life takes the epicness to a whole new level.

Cosplayers Unite to Recreate Epic Captain Marvel & Black Cat Variant Cover

1:25 Variant Cover by Carmen Carnero & Alejandro Sánchez for Captain Marvel #4 (2024)

Staying true to Carnero and Sánchez’s variant cover, Hamou’s Black Cat is portrayed in her classic black and white, fur-lined catsuit, black eye mask, and signature white hair. She lounges in a car, surrounded by bags of cash, completely unfazed, despite a displeased Captain Marvel glaring at her from the open window. Each cosplayer’s costume is a perfect match to the one worn by the characters in the variant cover. What makes this even more impressive is the attention to detail—Hamou and Creates have replicated the exact poses, with Creates even recreating Captain Marvel’s specific hairstyle from the cover.

While any Captain Marvel and Black Cat cosplay would have been a treat, there’s something particularly captivating about these cosplayers going the extra mile to recreate a Marvel-licensed piece of art. In doing so, Hamou and Creates have demonstrated their deep appreciation for the source material of the characters they portray. Recreating the variant cover is also the ultimate compliment and tribute to Carnero and Sánchez’s work, showing how visually impactful their art has been. It’s especially awesome that the cosplayers tagged the Carnero in their post, hopefully ensuring that the creators will get to see their art brought to life.

While Hamou and Creates are undeniably a huge reason this cosplay is so incredible, much of the credit also goes to digital artist Wens Universe (@wens.1998 on Instagram), who recreated the background and props that make this cosplay a hyper-faithful tribute to Carnero and Sánchez’s variant cover. Wens’s artistry brought to life the vibrant cityscape in the background, as well as the bags of cash surrounding Hamou’s Black Cat. Without Wens’s expertise, these key elements would be missing. Hence, this Captain Marvel and Black Cat cosplay is truly a massive group effort, coming together with the quality and detail that makes it stand out.
