Warning: Spoilers for New Champions #3Marvel Comics has recently introduced a new generation of young heroes, and they may be stepping up to become even more powerful than the heroes that came before them. The New Champions are striking out on their own as young heroes, and their latest adventure finally answers whether they’re worthy of calling themselves the New Champions.
In New Champions #3by Steve Foxe, Ivan Fiorelli, Arthur Hesli, and Travis Lanham, the Champions and the New Champions are both set up by new villain Magnetrix and have their emotions altered by Psycho Man, causing them to break out in a fight.
Before Ms. Marvel and Liberty can free their teams from Psycho Man’s influence, the heroes find their counterparts, but two of them have more similar powers than the rest: Nova and Cadet Marvel. The two fight to prove which of them is the most powerful. Given Nova’s history, even the off-chance that Cadet Marvel could beat him makes the new hero a possible A-tier addition to Marvel’s superheroic roster.
One New Champion, Cadet Marvel, May Be More Powerful than the Hulk
Nova and Cadet Marvel Are Marvel’s Latest Powerhouses
In Nova #24 by Gerry Duggan and David Baldeón, the monster known as Kluh, also described as the Hulk’s Hulk, is rampaging across Arizona. Kluh is what happens when Bruce Banner’s Hulk loses control of his own rage, creating a more powerful and intelligent Hulk. After a pummeling by Kluh, Sam Alexander’s Nova returns for round two and overpowers Kluh, wrapping him in a bridge’s cable and throwing him into space where his strength means nothing. Now, with the fight between Nova and Cadet Marvel, there may be another Hulk-beating hero.
Both Nova and Cadet Marvel held their own against each other, and that’s really saying something for Emilio Gallardo, because he’s been a hero for all but ten minutes.
Though there was no definitive winner of the fight, both Nova and Cadet Marvel held their own against each other, and that’s really saying something for Emilio Gallardo, because he’s been a hero for all but ten minutes, and Sam Alexander has years of experience, even as an Avenger. Emilio and Sam argue over who would throw who into space the furthest, and at the end of the fight, they argue over who would have won. Either way, Emilio held his own against Nova, and Nova defeated Kluh, so Cadet Marvel could probably defeat at least a regular-sized Hulk.
Marvel’s New Generation May Become More Powerful Than Their Avenger Predecessors
The New Champions Will Take Over for Existing Heroes
The New Champions were originally designed for a cover art series by Marvel’s current all-star artists to celebrate the success of Spider-Boy. The new heroes are alternate-universe, forgotten sidekicks of some of Marvel’s biggest heroes. Cadet Marvel has already proved his power by matching Nova in a fight, and with a little more experience and training, he may even be able to best him and level up to Captain Marvel’s powers. Emilio isn’t the only one of the New Champions who has the potential to be more powerful than their predecessors. Liberty and Amaranth are also prodigies.

A generational war is brewing in the Marvel Universe, as the New Champions prepare to face off with the previous iteration’s heroes.
Liberty, inspired by Captain America, is already on a path to becoming more powerful than the man out of time. She doesn’t have the super soldier serum, but Miranda Monteiro does have wings, hard light technology, and invisibility, giving her more versatility than Steve Rogers. Amaranth is a powerful witch that even caused Agatha Harkness to fear her. The New Champions will be an intriguing group to follow as they continue to grow into their powers and become some of the most powerful heroes in Marvel Comics.
