Fans are expecting both Doctor Doom and Kang to be the main players in the Multiverse Saga finale Avengers: Secret Wars. However, a new rumor seems to suggest one of the two won’t be involved in the project.

The debate of who should take center stage in Avengers: Secret Wars, Kang the Conqueror or Doctor Doom, has been raging ever since the project was announced. Especially given Jonathan Majors’ current legal troubles, many fans assume Doctor Doom will fill his role as the big bad of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, according to a writer from TheCosmicCircus, Doctor Doom likely won’t even have a minute of screen time before Secret Wars, let alone be the big bad:

The way that Marvel is currently positioned in terms of upcoming releases, it gives them enough time to evaluate Kang, as well as give ample time for the resolution of the Majors situation with the case against him.

He won’t be the main point of focus again until Phase 6.

I get everyone is excited for Doom. I am too. But I want him done RIGHT.

And getting it right is NOT a rushed intro in F4 to then suddenly pop up in Kang Dynasty at the 11th hour and be God Doom in Secret Wars while all the heroes ask themselves “Who the hell is this guy?”

It certainly makes sense Marvel wouldn’t suddenly pivot to making Doctor Doom the big bad of Avengers: Secret Wars, especially given Kang is infinitely recastable as a character. Given Doctor Doom is also one of the worst-adapted characters in the history of comic book movies, it’s likely fans will appreciate the extra time in the oven for the character, even if it means they have to wait a bit longer.

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty is the first movie in a two-part finale to Marvel’s Multiverse Saga. It will be followed by Avengers: Secret Wars, rounding out Marvel Studios’ Phase 6. Both films are scheduled to arrive in theaters in 2025.

Destin Daniel Cretton is set to direct Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, with Jeff Loveness attached to write. Michael Waldron will write Avengers: Secret Wars, though there is no director attached to the project.

Secret Wars is a crossover event that will bring together characters from all across the Marvel multiverse, so Iron Man’s experience and leadership will be invaluable to the Avengers. Michael Waldron is set to write the upcoming Marvel Studios film Avengers: Secret Wars, but a director has yet to be announced.
