The following contains major spoilers for X-Men #13, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

Marvel has officially confirmed that not even the weight of the entire universe can keep the Juggernaut down.

X-Men #13 finds the titular heroes under fire from some of the toughest competition of all time. Specifically, Storm, now possessed by the living embodiment of the Marvel Universe known as Eternity, who has chosen to stand by Charles Xavier’s side in spite of the obvious threat he currently poses. As such, Storm has been given no choice but to put her fellow X-Men down for the count. While it is easy enough for her to take on the likes of Cyclops, others are far more formidable. And, when it comes to the Juggernaut, not even being pinned by the weight of Eternity itself is enough tokeep him from getting right back up for another round.

Although Cain Marko, better known as the Juggernaut, has long played the role of a villain in Marvel Comics, he has also undergone one of the most endearing trajectories of any such character. First seen in the pages of 1965’s X-Men #12 by Stan Lee, Alex Toth, and Jack Kirby, the Juggernaut’s unstoppable might and impossible strength have always made him an absolute powerhouse. The Juggernaut’s genuine concern for the people he loves, however, as well as his lifelong struggle against his own worst impulses, have made him one of the most beloved heroes of all time.

Following the end of the Krakoan Era, Ororo Munroe, aka Storm, took it upon herself to lead an openly transparent sort of heroic lifestyle, all in the hopes of healing the divide between mutantkind and humanity. Unfortunately for her, this only led her to be exposed to a lethal dose of radiation during a near-cataclysmic encounter with another young mutant which, tragically, only made current human-mutant relations that much worse. In the weeks that followed, Storm searched for every and any possible answer to her problem, though none were able to help until she reached out to Doctor Voodoo.

A mutant powerhouse just experienced one of Wolverine’s most infamous moments, and it was the founder of the X-Men who put him through it.

When Doctor Voodoo bartered with a demonic spirit to save Storm’s life, doing so came at the expense of her not using her mutant abilities for one week’s time. When an encounter with Doctor Doom forced Storm to utilize her abilities, her life was cut short by the entity who had bargained for it in the first place. Surprisingly, it was Eternity who stepped in to save Storm from such a gruesome fate, all so that she could serve as his champion in an impending battle with the Abstract Entity known as Oblivion.
