The following contains major spoilers for All-New Venom #3, on sale now from Marvel Comics.
One of the most absurdly lethal supervillains of all time officially has his sights set on Marvel’s All-New Venom.
After an encounter with the titular antihero of All-New Venom #3, the villainous Madame Masque only barely manages to slip away from the fray unscathed. Fortunately for her, she also managed to steal away with a potent substance that was once possessed by A.I.M.’s newest scientific mastermind, Alvin Snodgrass, aka Doctor Fortissimo. Even more fortunate for Madame Masque, she isn’t alone in her endeavors, and M.O.D.O.K. is more than happy to help her take another shot at Venom.

The original Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing, or M.O.D.O.K., was first seen in Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s closing story from 1967’s Tales of Suspense #94, “If This Be… MODOK!” Once an otherwise ordinary man named George Tarleton, the future M.O.D.O.K. worked within A.I.M. as one of the technicians behind the creation of the Cosmic Cube. In the hopes of studying the Cosmic Cube further, George was mutated beyond recognition, although his original design as a computational being quickly gave way to his more malicious intent.
While M.O.D.O.K. has been at the center of countless villainous plots and numerous major storylines over the years, the version of the character scheming against Venom today is not the original. It was during Marvel Comics’ World War Hulks event when the fabled Cathexis Ray Generator was used to change M.O.D.O.K. back into his former self, leaving Tarleton to be taken into custody by the U.S. military, who confined him inside Gamma Base where he could begin to come to terms with the decades of horror his murderous other had wrought upon the world.

The most dangerous foe the Fantastic Four have ever known has finally taken over the entire world, and the response is not what the heroes expected.
Unsurprisingly, A.I.M. was unwilling to continue on without one of their greatest minds and most powerful assets. To fill the void that Tarleton’s absence had left behind, A.I.M. crafted a clone of the original into a more malicious M.O.D.O.K. than ever before. First seen in the opening story from 2011’s Hulk #29, “Scorched Earth, Parth 4: Exit Strategy,” by Jeff Parker and Gabriel Hardman, this new M.O.D.O.K. began his comic book career with much the same fervor as his predecessor. Rather than leaning solely into his villainy, however, this M.O.D.O.K. has proven to be a slightly more contemplative figure than the original, leading to a slew of transformations and changes that have put him on the cusp of redemption.
