Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Agatha All Along episodes 8 & 9Agatha All Along episodes 8 & 9 are full of Marvel Easter eggs, references, and more exciting nods to the greater MCU. The end of the Witches’ Road has come with some very exciting twists. As such, there are plenty of exciting connections to the original Marvel Comics during this brand-new double-episode MCU finale.

With Lilia Calderu’s sacrifice at the end of Agatha All Along episode 7, these new episodes begin with only Billy (Joe Locke), Agatha Harkness (Kathryn Hahn), and Jennifer Hale (Sasheer Zamata) as the only members of the coven left on the Witches’ Road. To that end, here are the biggest Easter eggs and reveals in Agatha All Along episodes 8 & 9.

21 Rio Debuts Full Lady Death Look From Comics Look

Hood, Crown, Skull

Having been shown resembling Lilia’s tarot cards in Agatha All Along episode 7, Aubrey Plaza’s Rio makes her full debut as Lady Death as she appears in the original Marvel Comics. This includes a dark black cloak and hood, though only the bottom half of her face is a skull compared to Death as she’s depicted on the page (which is simply a full human skull).

20 “The Sacred Balance”

A Subtle Comics Nod To Thanos?

When speaking with Agatha, Rio confirms that Billy taking William Kaplan’s body is an abomination to the “sacred balance”. While no direct connection is made, it’s worth noting that Thanos himself was romantically involved with Lady Death, whose mission in the MCU was achieving a cosmic balance across the universe by ending half of all life (as seen in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame).

19 Agatha Revealed As The One Who Bound Jennifer

For 100 Years

Agatha All Along episode 3 revealed that a doctor in Boston placed a binding spell on Jennifer 100 years earlier. However, this was news to Agatha in episode 8, who confirms that she was the one who sold the doctor the binding spell, allowing Jennifer to finally break the bond in this episode and regain her power.

18 Lines From WandaVision’s Finale

Billy Hears Wanda And Vision’s Voices

17

While Agatha helps Billy’s Wiccan locate and find a vessel for Tommy’s spirit, Billy can hear the voices of Wanda Maximoff and Vision just before the Scarlet Witch brings down the Hex over Westview as seen in WandaVision’s finale. Vision can be heard telling the boys he’s proud of them both, while Wanda thanks the boys for choosing her to be their mom.

16 White & Blue Shoes For Tommy

Complete With A Letter “S” For Speed

Billy and Agatha ultimately find a vessel for Tommy Maximoff with a boy being drowned (presumably Thomas Shepard). While his face isn’t shown, the boy’s blue and white shoe can be seen with the letter “S”, which more than likely stands for Speed, Tommy’s superhero name when he and Wiccan join the Young Avengers in the comics.

15 Wiccan’s Full Comics Costume

No Longer Just A Halloween Costume

Leaving the Witches’ Road, Agatha faces Lady Death directly at the end of Agatha All Along episode 8. However, she’s also aided by the arrival of Billy, who’s dressed in his full red-and-blue Wiccan costume from the comics. As such, it’s pretty exciting to see the full outfit, rather than just the Halloween version the younger Billy wore in WandaVision.

14 Agatha’s Wandavision Costume

Her Power Restored

Offering some of his power to Agatha, Harkness is shown back in her final costume seen in the finale of WandaVision. Likewise, it also becomes the costume she dies in after giving herself up to save Wiccan from Lady Death who was demanding a body.

13 Wiccan Leaving Westview Mirrors Wanda

From WandaVision’s Finale

As Wiccan leaves Agatha’s home and Westview, it very much mirrors the finale of WandaVision with Wanda. Pulling both of their hoods up, both Maximoffs depart the town with what has to be intentionally mirrored framing inspired by the original MCU finale.

12 More Movie Posters In Billy’s Room

Buffy, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Saw, Carrie

Different movie posters can be seen in Billy’s room compared to those in William’s. This includes Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Saw, Carrie, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. However, The Wizard of Oz remains between the two shows.

11 Everything In Billy’s Room Connected To The Witches’ Road

Wizard of Oz, Leaves, And More

As Billy inadvertently realizes that he created the Witches’ Road using his power, the young sorcerer sees various elements in his room that inspired the creation of the Road, which was “better than he pictured it”. This includes the yellow brick road from The Wizard of Oz, the multicolored trees and leaves, a painting of the ocean house from Agatha All Along episode 3, and more.

10 Wiccan Creating Road Confirms Lilia’s Reading

Powers of Creation (The Demiurge?)

Lilia’s tarot reading for Billy from the previous episode is referenced in Agatha All Along episode 8, confirming his powerful ability over creation itself and to “turn his goals into reality”. This could be a nod to Wiccan’s fated future in the comics as the powerful Demiurge.

Will Agatha All Along Season 2 Happen? Everything We Know

Questions surrounding whether Agatha All Along will get a season 2 have emerged since well before the Marvel Cinematic Universe show’s release.

9 “Made From Scratch”

Nicholas’ Name From The Comics

The beginning of Agatha All Along episode 9 opens with the birth of Agatha’s son Nicholas Scratch in 1750. Confirming that she used no spell or incantation to bring him into being, Agatha says that she made him “from scratch“, a new MCU origin for Nicholas’ classic name in the original Marvel Comics.

Stolen by Nicholas

Six years later, Agatha’s son is shown stealing a bell from a witch, luring her and her fellow sisters to his mother, who kills them and takes their power for herself. However, this is the same bell Agatha is shown using at the start of the show’s first performance of the Ballad in Agatha All Along episode 2.

Connects To His Room in Agatha’s Premiere

Agatha All Along episode 9 confirms that the Ballad was originally created by Nicholas Scratch and his mother which Agatha would then use after his death to lure more witches and take their power. As such, this reveal explains Nicholas’ room in Agatha All Along episode 1 which featured a singing award Nicholas earned (in Agatha’s reality created by Wanda’s spell).

6 “Use Your Purple”

Also Connects Back To Agatha Premiere

While living in the forest, Nicholas asks his mother if she can “use her purple”, referring to her purple magic powers. However, this also connects to Agatha All Along’s premiere where Harkness convinces Rio to not kill her until she “gets her purple back”.

5 Dandelion Seed in Agatha’s Locket

A Memory With Nicholas

In Agatha All Along episode 8, Agatha uses a dandelion seed found in her locket to complete the final trial on the Witches’ Road. To that end, Agatha All Along episode 9 features Nicholas and Agatha blowing on dandelions, explaining how the seed got in the locket in the first place.

Wait, Why Wasn’t Scarlet Witch In Agatha All Along?

Agatha All Along’s nine-episode story has come to a close and the Scarlet Witch was nowhere to be seen, leading many to wonder why she did not return.

All Along And Through The Ages

After Aubrey Plaza’s Rio aka Lady Death takes Nicholas (after giving Agatha six years rather than taking him right away), Agatha goes on a dark killing spree, using the myth of the Witches’ Road created by the Ballad to lure covens to take their power. As such, Agatha is shown singing the Ballad with various covens throughout the ages, building the myth of the Road and its perils while in truth, simply adding to her own magical abilities.

3 Agatha Debuts Classic Marvel Comics Look

Ghostly (And Old)

After sacrificing herself to save Wiccan in Agatha All Along episode 8, a much older Agatha appears to Billy as a ghost in Agatha All Along episode 9. Having white hair and a new costume, Agatha very much looks like the original and much older Agatha as she first appeared in the comics. While the new look is very accurate, it’s also quite ironic considering many thought that the MCU was simply going to give Harkness the one white streak in her hair, mirroring Agatha’s current and more recent design on the page (which was done so that she’d better resemble Kathryn Hahn’s version).

2 “We’d Make A Good Team”

Mirrors Scarlet Witch’s 2016 Comics’ Arc

Ghost Agatha’s proposal that she and Billy’s Wiccan team up does feel like an intentional nod to 2016’s Scarlet Witch run from James Robinson and Vanesa Del Rey. Not only was this run the first appearance of the true Witches’ Road (which is a real place in the comics), but it also featured Wanda walking down the Road alongside the ghost of Agatha who served as her ally and spirit guide.
