Marvel Comics is unleashing another Dracula story on readers this summer in the pages of Werewolf by Night: Blood Moon Rise.
This July will mark the release of a whole new terrifying tale in the form of Marvel Comics’ Werewolf by Night: Blood Moon Rise #1. Written by composer and Marvel Studios’ Werewolf by Night director Michael Giacchino with art by David Messina (Ultimate Spider-Man), the one-shot is slated to bring readers back to the early days of Jack Russell’s career as the Werewolf by Night. “It could be a lost story from the original run, in a way,” Giacchino said of the title.

“It’s Dracula who has tracked him down to exact some revenge from the last time that they were together in the comics,” Giacchino continued. “There’s a fun twist to it that I think is going to be really interesting for people who are into Jack Russell and that lore.” Giacchino went on to dig into his personal affinity for monster stories such as Werewolf by Night, explaining, “I like how they humanize what are otherwise described or seen by the rest of the world as awful creatures and… well, monsters. I never saw them that way… I always felt bad for them. I really did. So there’s this emotional attachment to those stories, which is still with me today.”
Apart from Giacchino and Messina’s main story, Werewolf by Night: Blood Moon Rise #1 will also feature a backup story by Werewolf by Night: Red Band writer Jason Loo. The series brought back the iconic duo of Jack Russell and Elsa Bloodstone for a whole new adventure revolving around the return of one of Marvel Comics’ deadliest villains – Lilith. After months of being hounded and hunted by the dark cult known as the Darkholders, Jack and Elsa were captured by Lilith, with the latter hero on the verge of death and the former unable to do anything to save her.
