Insomniac Games has had several hits for much of its existence, especially the Marvel’s Spider-Man series with over 50 million sales as of February 2024. However, while the developer has revisited other franchises like Ratchet and Clank, some may wonder if the underrated Sunset Overdrive will ever get its chance to shine.
Not for the foreseeable future, at least. While tweeting about the open-world shooter’s humorous respawn animations, Insomniac responded to a user asking why it doesn’t make a port or remaster for PS4 or PS5. “We’re busy with Marvel’s Wolverine!” It stated last month that it would reveal new details on the title “when the time is right.”
As it stands, the studio is busy for the next several years. A ransomware attack last year revealed that alongside Marvel’s Wolverine (reportedly targeting a 2026 launch), Insomniac is also working on Marvel’s X-Men. The latter is allegedly coming in 2030, with a sequel planned for 2033.
There are also reportedly plans for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to receive three free DLC packs this year. It’s also seemingly working on Marvel’s Venom for release in 2025, followed by Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 in 2028. With that in mind, hopes for anything involving Sunset Overdrive seem bleak. Nevertheless, stay tuned for updates.
