There’s a new mandate at Marvel Studios to cut down on developing so much content for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the latest update on the live-action Nova adaptation appears to be promising.
In an interview with Screen Rant, Nova was given a new update from Brad Winderbaum — Marvel Studios’ Head of TV, Streaming, and Animation. The most recent rumors about the project is that it was getting planned as a live-action series for Disney+. Winderbaum clarified that the Nova project is still in the works, and that it’s one title that Marvel Studios is especially excited about. However, there’s still not quite a guarantee that Nova will see the light of day.
Marvel Animation Exec Teases New Spider-Man and Black Panther Animated Series
Following the epic Season 1 finale of X-Men ‘97, Marvel Animation is teasing new animated projects for Spider-Man and Black Panther.
“It’s new territory for us, developing more shows than we produce,” he said. “Nova certainly is exciting to us, we’ve got some great ideas simmering. I think there’s a lot of potential there. I love Nova, also, from the comics, especially the Richard Rider era… we’ll see what happens. Like you said, there’s only so many release slots in the schedule, but we want to make sure everything we make is as good as it could possibly be. But I will saythat is a particular project we are excited about and excited about developing.”
As mentioned, the limited releases for new projects from Marvel Studios may become a roadblock in getting the series made. Only so many of the potential projects in the works will be able to get greenlit, so time will tell if Nova is lucky enough to make the cut. Disney CEO Bob Iger recently confirmed that the company will be slowing down with MCU output, planning to release fewer feature films as well as fewer Marvel shows on Disney+.
Carnage is Already Plotting Against a Returning Marvel Agent
One of Marvel Comics’ great agents returns, however, he may not last long if the lethal symbiote Carnage follows through with its plans.
“I’ve been working hard with the studio to reduce output and focus more on quality, that’s particularly true with Marvel,” Iger said during Diensy’s fiscal Q2 earnings call. “We’re slowly going to decrease volume and go to probably about two TV series a year instead of what had become four, and reduce our film output from maybe four a year to two or at the maximum three. And we’re working hard on what that path is, we’ve got a couple of good films in ’25 and then we’re heading to more Avengers, which we’re extremely excited about.”
Nova first debuted with his own comic book, The Man Called Nova, which was published by Marvel Comics in 1976. The character is created by Marv Wolfman and John Romita Sr. He is depicted as a member of an intergalactic police force known as the Nova Corps, and with his access to the Nova Force, he boasts superhuman abilities like flight and super strength.
