I previously tweeted this to the head of Marvel gaming, Bill Rosemann, who used to edit the Marvel Cosmic titles that I helped promote back in the day, Nova and Guardians of the Galaxy, that I think it would be super cool if Marvel has a collab with Helldivers 2 (yeah, I know the Fortnite thing).
Prior to Rosemann tackling Marvel Cosmic was the 2005/6 stellar Annihilation comic book event which saw Fantastic Four villain Annihilus invading the Marvel universe with his bug army.
While the superheroes on Earth were bickering amongst themselves during Civil War, Annihilus wiped out the Nova Corps and nearly took over the universe.
Only heroes like Nova, the Silver Surfer, and more, stood in the way of Annihilus and managed to defeat him.
I think you see where I am going with this as in Helldivers 2, players take on the Terminids, but what is also kinda cool is the game sees players battling the Automatons.
Led by Rosemann, Marvel released the sequel, Annihilation: Conquest, which saw the Marvel Cosmic heroes battling the Phalanx, a techno-organic race who happened to have none other than Ultron as their leader. So that’s sorta like the Automatons.
Anyway, I think it would be cool to have a “Marvel Warbond” where players could buy armor and weapons inspired by the Nova Corps and such. It would be cool to run around dressed as a Nova Corpsmen or even Nova Prime.
Regarding a possible Helldivers 2 and Star Wars collab, nothing fancy – no lightsabers or any bullshit like that – simply being able to dress as a Mandalorian and maybe using some of their guns (mini-gun?!) would be pretty cool.
I also wanted to go over my favorite loadouts that I am presently using in Helldivers 2.
So we all know there are lots of guns, but it seems as if most of them suck, and just when they get good and catch on with players, they get nerfed, which also sucks.
So what I do is toy around and experiment on easier levels with various guns, armor, and loadouts.
One of my favorite current loadouts is to use the SG-8P Punisher Plasma as my primary weapon (I never run into anyone else using it). It’s actually more like a grenade launcher as it can take out multiple enemies at once due to having an explosive shot, and it shoots more like a launcher (big arc) than a straight shooter. Another bonus is when you shoot an enemy at close range, it blasts you back, so if you are in a pinch and surrounded by enemies, using the SG-8P Punisher Plasma can save you and give you room and time enough to run and stim yourself.
So with the SG-8P Punisher Plasma being more like a grenade launcher, I usually pair it with the Stalwart when battling Terminids, and I like using the Anti-Material Rifle against the Automatons.
Since the SG-8P Punisher Plasma is more like a one shot and you can run out of ammo quick, for my secondary weapon, I go with the P-19 Redeemer. It’s quick in a pinch and can take out multiple small enemies and reloads at a decent speed.
No question my favorite stragem is the 500kg Bomb Eagle as it’s fast at replenishing and can take out factories and hives.
I pair it with the Orbital Laser, which while you only get three, it’s a sigh of relief when someone launches one, as it’s OP as fk. I usually use one right away when I land, and I’ll save the last one when we are extracting.
Again, I usually grab the Stalwart (great on taking on the hordes of little bugs) and the Anti-Material Rifle (guess I like it from my COD camping days! lol).
I’ll also really favor the EMS Mortar, which has quickly become of of my fav’s. It’s better than the regular Mortar Sentry, as the regular Mortar Sentry often kills you or the other players, and it’s annoying as fk. So for example when you’ll clear out the enemies yourself, the regular Mortar Sentry will often fire anyway and kill you. Sucks when you are trying to extract. The EMS Mortar is much better and stuns the enemies enabling you to easily take them out (SG-8P Punisher Plasma comes in handy here as again you can take out batches of enemies at a time). I also think the EMS Mortar has some damage capabilities.
Don’t throw reinforcement in the middle of a swarm of enemies. I don’t know how many times players have thrown me in the middle of a pack of Terminids. It’s annoying as fk and you basically die right away (but not without me letting off a 500kg Bomb Eagle first!).
Don’t thrown a strategem at the point of extraction. I know players love to do this before they board the ship, but I’ve seen it actually kill people (me!), lol, and then you don’t get the points for extracting everyone.
Finish the side missions! I don’t know how many games I’ve played and as soon as people complete the main mission they instantly (panic?) and run to get extracted. At times, I’ve played games when there is one side mission to complete and lots of time left on the clock! Don’t panic, newbs!
Don’t kick people when extracting! Talk about a douche move! This should be disabled by the developer.
Great game! Have fun! Long live the Republic!
