The phrase, “To me, my X-Men,” has been an indelible part of the X-Men franchise from almost the very beginning. Those instantly iconic words were first uttered by Professor Charles Xavier in the final panel of 1963’s X-Men #1 by writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby. Since then, the same rallying cry has been called out time and time again by everyone from Xavier’s longtime enemy Magneto to fellow mutant leaders such as Storm.

Lorna Dane, better known as Polaris, made her debut back in 1968’s X-Men #49 by writer Arnold Drake and artists Don Heck and Werner Roth. The daughter of Magneto, Polaris inherited her father’s control of magnetism on top of more unique abilities such as energy absorption and the power to manipulate the elements themselves. These additional abilities all stem from Polaris’ experimentation with her most basic powers, which have grown and evolved along with her as a character.

Currently, the Brood whom Polaris commands is under the control of Broo, an alien mutant who was taken in by the X-Men before eventually coming to rule over nearly all of his people. In recent years, the severed Celestial head known as Knowhere has become a safe haven for Broo and his fellow Brood.
