Fans have been demanding a Nightwing and Daredevil crossover for years – and while it’s been a long time since Marvel and DC were prepared to combine their worlds, fan artists are stepping up where the publishers won’t. Acrobatic crime fighters who leap before they look, Matt Murdock and Dick Grayson have similar techniques but very different philosophies, leading fans to wonder how the two would fare working together.

Artists Arifinity_ and Bensolo_cup bring Daredevil and Nightwing’s team-up to life in beautiful photo-realistic fan art showing the two heroes running across the rooftops of either Hell’s Kitchen or Blüdhaven. The picture sees each hero using their iconic weapons, with Daredevil’s radar sense leading the way, and appears to use the likenesses of Daredevil MCU actor Charlie Cox and Not Okay‘s Dylan O’Brien, who was at one point rumored to be playing Nightwing.

DC has allowed tons of iconic characters to meet, from Batman and Captain America to Thor and Superman. However, Nightwing was originally Batman’s first sidekick and then later a member of the Teen Titans, leading to a less prominent role in inter-company crossovers. While he was part of the 1982 The Uncanny X-Men and The New Teen Titans crossover as Robin, he never got a chance to cross over with Marvel in his far more prominent modern-day role as a solo hero.

Nightwing & Daredevil Is the Marvel/DC Crossover Fans Deserve

Marvel and DC’s Ultimate Acrobat Crime-Fighters Are a Dream Team

Nightwing is one of the most well-trained vigilantes in the DC Universe and grew up under Batman, an absolutely brutal teacher. Batman demanded perfection and that’s pretty much what he got. Dick is an extremely skilled acrobat and often uses two escrima sticks to fight criminals. He’s also known for his roller-coaster love life and positive attitude, being perhaps DC’s best team player, with the friends and allies to prove it.

Daredevil can’t say the same, with a major aversion to working with other superheroes. A brutal, gritty brawler in the style of his boxer father, Matt Murdock underwent even more grueling training than Dick thanks to his mentor Stick. Matt famously uses billy clubs in combat, and possesses enhanced senses that give him an uncanny understanding of the world around him, enhancing his skills as a fighter and detective.

Daredevil & Nightwing Have a Lot In Common

Performer Parents and Heartthrob Reputations Could Bond Matt and Dick

Daredevil and Nightwing have both had rocky love lives, with some major heartbreaks along the way, and have a unique appreciation for the spotlight. Dick’s parents were assassinated during their acrobatic act, while Matt’s father was killed because he refused to throw a boxing match, with each hero following in his parents’ footsteps in how he constructed his superhero identity. However, what would make them so fascinating is that Nightwing grew up offering hope and brightness to Batman – something Daredevil had to do without. Despite his powers, Daredevil can’t afford to pull punches on the streets of Hell’s Kitchen, and it’s likely that Nightwing would object to some of his more bone-crunching moves. It’s the perfect set up for the classic hero vs hero fight followed by a reluctant team-up, with Daredevil and Nightwing’s similarities and differences helping them play off each other perfectly.

As DC continues to elevate Nightwing within its universe and Daredevil provides some of Marvel’s most critically beloved comic runs, fans deserve to see Dick Grayson and Matt Murdock unite, especially if it means them combining their incredible acrobatics and mastery of similar weapons against a mutual foe. While the days of projects like JLA/Avengers and Marvel vs DC are long gone, there’s always hope that the publishers will one day work together again, with a Daredevil/Nightwing team-up begging to be made.
