Venom

#30, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

Marvel’s one true King in Black just obliterated his former self.

After venturing through time and space and coming face-to-face with the seventh, supposedly final version of himself, Eddie Brock has made his way back to the villainous Meridius’ Garden of Time in the pages of Venom #30. There, Eddie confronts his fellow Kings in Black, all different versions of himself from across the timeline, including his “original” self, who is greeted with a brutal decapitation and head-crushing, not to mention the heart-breaking realization that his crusade is responsible for getting his son Dylan grievously injured.

The mantle of King in Black, effectively the god of all symbiotes, is one that originated with their species’ progenitor, Knull, the ancient entity who ravaged the Marvel Universe and invaded Earth in 2021’s King in Black crossover event. Following Knull’s death at the hands of a cosmically empowered Eddie Brock, the latter took up the former’s title and all the seemingly infinite horrors that come along with it.

The villainous version of Eddie Brock known as Meridius made his first full appearance in the pages of 2021’s Venom #1 by writers Ram V and Al Ewing and artist Bryan Hitch. As the sixth temporal offshoot of the original Eddie Brock, Meridius has spent thousands of years toiling away in the hopes of ascending to the same state as the Eventuality, the seventh, “final” Eddie who exists deep within the Symbiote Hive in the Un-Beyond, a realm that is the physical antithesis to that which the Beyonders call home.
