Summary
An intriguing Armor Wars fan poster brings Iron Man’s nemesis back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark faced several foes throughout his time in the MCU, be it in his Iron Man trilogy or the Avengers movies. While there were some powerful villains among the ones Iron Man traded blows with, one of them was more important than the rest.
On Instagram, digital artist @bensolo_cup imagined Ultron’s return in Armor Wars.
The first MCU movie with Don Cheadle as the lead, War Machine’s Armor Wars, could be a possible place for Ultron’s MCU return, as the film will deal with Stark’s legacy. Ultron carries a special connection to Tony Stark, as RDJ’s Iron Man and Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner were directly responsible for the rogue artificial intelligence’s creation.

There are a few ways in which the MCU could bring Ultron back for Armor Wars. The last time James Spader voiced the character was for his debut film, 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. At the end of the movie, the last Ultron Sentry was trying to make a silent escape when Paul Bettany’s Vision arrived just in time to destroy him.
While that initially seemed like the end of the character, the MCU has since brought Ultron back through a different medium. The Walking Dead actor Ross Marquand took over as Ultron’s voice for the animated What If…? The series saw Ultron emerge as Infinity Ultron after he collected all the Infinity Stones and became a threat to the multiverse. While Arnim Zola ended up taking control of Ultron’s body, a similar multiversal take on the character could make its way to the MCU and serve as the main villain of Armor Wars, with What If…? showing the potential the villain has.
With Marvel looking at bringing the original Avengers back for a new movie, pulling a version of Ultron from the multiverse for Armor Wars does not seem like a major issue. However, there is also a way for the original Ultron to return. While Stark founded the Department of Damage Control, the organization has taken a darker turn in recent years. Damage Control could have a final Ultron Sentry locked away in secret, similarly to how SWORD was in possession of Vision’s body. During the events of Armor Wars, a villain such as Justin Hammer could get his hands on Ultron and bring him back online.
