The Merc with the Mouth will have to speak loud enough to speak for all Marvel fans in 2024.

Following the conclusion of the actors’ strike this week, Disney announced major release date changes for some of its top 2024 and 2025 features, including several Marvel Cinematic Universe projects.

Originally set to debut on May 3, 2024, “Deadpool 3” – which stars Ryan Reynolds as the title character and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine – will now arrive in theaters on July 26, 2024. The project is significant because it’s the first time Deadpool will enter the MCU after years away in a separate continuity due to studio divides. Previously, the rights for Deadpool, X-Men, and the Fantastic Four resided with a rival studio in 20th Century Fox. (Disney acquired Fox in 2019.)

The shift of “Deadpool 3” created a domino effect. Originally set to debut on July 26, 2024, “Captain America: Brave New World” has now moved to February 14, 2025. The new entry in the Captain America franchise, with Anthony Mackie as the title hero, was supposedly done shooting before the strike – and online speculation suggests the film might undergo some reshoots in the months ahead, a common practice for Marvel films.

Thunderbolts,” which is a supervillain team-up movie of sorts that would star Florence Pugh and David Harbour among others, was originally set to premiere on December 20, 2024. Instead, it will debut on July 20, 2025. “Blade,” an R-rated MCU entry with Mahershala Ali, was originally set for February 14, 2025, but with “Brave New World” now on the date, it shifted to November 7, 2025.

What this means is that “Deadpool 3” is the only MCU movie on the calendar for 2024. The studio – which has been scuffling in the discourse lately – had three movies this year: “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” and this week’s “The Marvels.”

In non-MCU news, “Mufasa: The Lion King,” Barry Jenkins’s prequel to the live-action “The Lion King,” was originally scheduled for July 5, 2024. It will now premiere on December 20, 2024.
