He can save the day and give people a few laughs.

Samantha was one of four initial candidates for Project: Rebirth. While she was the final choice, she was lost to time, thanks to an interdimensional portal.

Seventy-five years later, she arrived just in time to be a new hero for Earth-65. Samantha immediately joined up with S.H.I.E.L.D. and began fighting the good fight, including helping to clean up a few of the villains, causing problems for Spider-Gwen. AKA Captain America 2099

Hails from Earth-23291

Roberta Mendez stands out in any Captain America lineup, and for one key reason—she never signed up for any of this. Roberta’s husband, Harry, forced his version of the Super-Soldier Serum on her, changing her path in life. With the serum coursing through her veins, Roberta became Captain America 2099, aka the Captain America of Earth-2099.

As Captain America 2099, Roberta Mendez became the leader of Alchemax’s version of the Avengers. Perhaps due to the unwilling nature of her transformation, Roberta developed a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde relationship with the Captain America persona. Additionally, much like some variations of the Winter Soldier, a specific combination of trigger words can control her. More specifically, these words can trigger her transformation between Roberta and Captain America.

First appeared as Captain America in Captain America #34 (2008)

James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes

AKA Winter Soldier, Revolution, and Captain America

James “Bucky” Barnes has long been part of Steve Rogers’ story. They were best friends from a young age, and Bucky bore witness to Steve’s impressive transformation. While there’s no denying the two had their ups and downs, especially during Bucky’s time as the Winter Soldier, the two have held a bond that’ll last a lifetime. Originally introduced as Steve’s sidekick, Bucky has successfully become his own hero.

These days, most fans know Bucky as the Winter Solider or maybe even Revolution. However, he did have a stint as Captain America following the Civil War event. It wasn’t the most natural fit for this hero, as he’s a talented fighter, but Bucky is not always the best leader. Unsurprisingly, Bucky quickly returned the mantle to Steve Rogers upon the hero’s return.

In the MCU, Sam Wilson hesitantly stepped into the role of Captain America following the events of Avengers: Endgame, while in the comics, Sam takes on the role after the super serum burns out of Steve Rogers’ body, effectively retiring the hero. Sam Wilson is an iconic version of Captain America, knowing full well he has massive shoes to fill. Likewise, his story is compelling, powerful, and worth the read.
