Spider-Man may be known for his iconic one-liners, but in recent memory, he’s strayed from that classic characterization as his “Parker luck” has worsened. Now, though, he’s going back to his humorous roots and becoming Marvel’s funniest hero again in an upcoming series that will give readers the fun version of Spider-Man that they’ve been sorely missing as of late.
The Amazing Spider-Man #1 by Joe Kelly, Pepe Larraz, and John Romita Jr. serves as a highly anticipated relaunch for Spider-Man, bringing him back to basics as he faces off against his rogues’ gallery once again.
Writer Joe Kelly shared details about this exciting new series in an interview with AIPT Comics, delving into his vision for Spider-Man. In reference to Kelly’s take on Peter, AIPT’s David Brooke wrote, “One of the first things readers noticed when Kelly came onto the book was the humor, a return to the quip-heavy Peter Parker,” suggesting that a funnier Spider-Man is on his way.
Spider-Man’s New Era Will Bring Back His Iconic Quips During Battles
Depressed Spider-Man Is In the Past, As Marvel’s Funniest Hero Returns
The preview for The Amazing Spider-Man #1 offers a glimpse of Spider-Man in action, throwing out webs and one-liners alike as he battles Rhino in the streets of New York. As Rhino chases him down, Spider-Man lists what he would consider to be the villain’s “admirable qualities” – with his ability to “make slate gray work in all four seasons” being among them – but he then remarks, “Impeccable timing will not be on the list, Rhino!” Despite the seriousness of combat situations, Spider-Man’s humor always bring much-needed levity to his fights, and his new series will include plenty of comedic moments in this vein.

Spider-Man will face off against a terrifying new enemy in his upcoming series, and Marvel Comics has unveiled an early look at this mysterious foe.
Tragically, even though Spider-Man’s quippy nature is a staple of his characterization, recent stories have strayed from that quality. Spider-Man can still be funny when he wants to be, of course, but Peter Parker has recently been too depressed to offer much in the way of humor. While grounded drama can work in Spider-Man’s stories, he loses a vital part of himself when he strays too far into misery. “Parker luck” can become grating when it detracts from readers’ enjoyment, so this imminent return to form for Spider-Man is exactly what the character needs to return to his peak.

The Amazing Spider-Man Gives Peter Parker a Much-Needed Return to Form
This bold new beginning for Spider-Man in Marvel Comics is shaping up to be a true return to form for Peter Parker. Between failed attempts at romance and constant unemployment, on top of his struggles with depression, Peter Parker has been in a rough spot lately and could use a fun story like this to lift his spirits. Spider-Man’s quips enable him to endear himself to readers, so it’s a great sign that he’ll be bringing them back. With the return of fan-favorite villains and a comeback to his classic comedy, Spider-Man is ready to win back anyone who’s missed his glory days.
The Amazing Spider-Man #1 will be available on April 9th, 2025 from Marvel Comics!
