“Thunderbolts*” hits theaters in a couple of months so it’s far too late to change any rosters, but it seems to us there are some obvious choices for team members who, for whatever reason, were left out.

6. Venom

Yes, we’re aware that Tom Hardy’s Venom isn’t part of the MCU, but we’re also aware that the guy left a little sliver of himself behind in the post-credits scene of “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” Exactly what was the point of that thing if it wasn’t going to make some kind of impact?

5. Tim Roth as The Abomination

Ever since the Marvel One-Shot “The Consultant” revealed that the Abomination was in custody and that there were plans to use him as a tool of the military, something like “Thunderbolts*” seemed like a perfect fit for him.

This has only become more true since his time on “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” turned him into a self-help guru. He would fit in even better with the team of misfits “Thunderbolts*” has assembled.

4. Jon Bernthal as The Punisher

No, Jon Bernthal’s Punisher wouldn’t want anything to do with any group of superheroes, but the team in “Thunderbolts*” seems exactly like the kind of team for that kind of guy. Not to mention that in the comics, the Thunderbolts are one of the few teams Punisher found a home in.

3. Harrison Ford as Red Hulk

One of the reasons The Abomination may have been left out of “Thunderbolts*” is because the filmmakers wanted a team that didn’t have a lot of uber-powerful characters. They wanted underdogs.

But in spite of his power, the Red Hulk could still make sense on the team. Unlike the Abomination, we haven’t seen Thaddeus Ross show any kind of mental control over his more Hulky half. That could make him as much a liability for the rest of the team as a help, and much more fun.

2. Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye

One might well argue that having a “Thunderbolts*” movie without Hawkeye is like having an “Avengers” movie without Captain America. No single hero led an iteration of Thunderbolts in the comics as long as Hawkeye. Not to mention the archer would seem to fit in well with a team of relatively low-power anti-heroes.

1. Daniel BrĂĽhl as Baron Helmut Zemo

If “Thunderbolts*” without Hawkeye is like “Avengers” without Captain America, then a “Thunderbolts*” movie without Baron Zemo is like making the first “Avengers” movie without Iron Man. Zemo is not only an important member of the original iteration of the team in the comics, he’s the founder.

His absence is particularly surprising considering how important “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” series seems to be to “Thunderbolts*” (it introduced both Val and John Walker to the MCU), in which Zemo played a prominent role.
