Sentry might be one of the major villains in Thunderbolts*, as confirmed by the latest trailer, sparking discussions about his destructive alter ego, The Void. As the MCU introduces one of its most powerful characters, questions arise: How dangerous is The Void, and can the Thunderbolts stop him?

Let’s examine Sentry’s origins, The Void’s powers, and what their arrival means for the Thunderbolts* movie.

The Thunderbolts* trailer confirms Sentry as the film’s antagonist, played by Lewis Pullman.

Robert “Bob” Reynolds, known as Sentry, gains his powers from an experimental serum granting him immense strength, flight, and energy manipulation. However, the serum also creates The Void, a destructive alter ego that emerges when Bob loses control.

The Void is a manifestation of his subconscious darkness, bringing chaos and destruction. In Marvel Comics, The Void has been responsible for mass devastation, requiring intervention from heroes like Doctor Strange and Reed Richards to suppress its influence.

The trailer reveals New York City being engulfed by darkness, signaling The Void’s emergence. Bob appears to be the cause, turning civilians into shadows, which aligns with The Void’s ability to spread fear and consume everything in its path.

Due to The Void’s overwhelming power, traditional combat rarely defeats him. In past comic arcs, heroes erased Bob’s memory to sever his connection to The Void, a strategy the film may explore.

The Void wields all of Sentry’s abilities but with uncontrolled malice.

These include superhuman strength, invulnerability, energy projection, and flight. Additionally, The Void can manipulate shadows, create constructs, and corrupt those around him. The trailer showcases civilians transforming into shadows, illustrating The Void’s influence spreading across the city.

Sentry’s origins link to a failed Super Soldier Serum experiment, making his presence significant in Thunderbolts. The team includes Bucky Barnes, U.S. Agent, and Red Guardian, all connected to variations of the serum.

Their shared history may be key in combating The Void. Since physical attacks are ineffective, the Thunderbolts may need to use psychological tactics to reach Bob and suppress The Void before it causes further destruction.

Thunderbolts* is scheduled for a theatrical release on May 2.
