The Marvel universe has no shortage of incredible fighters, whether they be unstoppable brutes like The Incredible Hulk or backed up by advanced technology like SP//dr pilot Peni Parker. As impressive as these things are, sometimes there’s no substitute for good old-fashioned martial arts.

There are plenty of Marvel characters who are, or would be, amazing fighters even without superpowers or advanced technology. If you’re wondering who the best ones are, then read below to find out. Just remember not to drop your guard and mind your footwork.

Taskmaster

Unoriginal But Excellent

Taskmaster, real name Anthony Masters, has photographic reflexes, enabling him to copy the movements of anyone so long as he has seen them performed once. That means he is able to duplicate the martial arts prowess of even the greatest the Marvel universe has to offer.

Coupled with the ability to push past the natural limits of human speed for brief periods of time, Taskmaster is undoubtedly one of the best hand-to-hand fighters there is. Although limited by a lack of original skill, blending the martial arts of various fighters helps make up for that.

Elektra

A Woman Without Fear

Elektra Natchios is better known as a master assassin than a martial artist, but she most certainly is the latter. Trained in multiple combat styles, honed over technically more than one lifetime, Elektra is a highly accomplished fighter.

She’s so capable that she serves as the second Daredevil, protecting New York from the same threats Matt Murdock does. It’s been a tough road for Elektra, but she’s fought for her redemption and earned it.

Lin Lie

The Iron Fist

The current Iron Fist, Lin Lie has achieved a new level of fame thanks to Marvel Rivals. While many might assume he is “just” the new Iron Fist, he’s already been around for over half a decade in the comics.

Previously known as Swordmaster, Lin Lie now serves as the Iron Fist. Although not as experienced as Danny Rand, he has been trained by some of the best martial artists in the world, including Shang-Chi.

Black Panther

Trained From Birth

King of Wakanda, T’Challa was trained to take up the mantle of the Black Panther for his entire life. His enhanced physiology aside, he is an incredible fighter, more than capable of taking on the likes of Daredevil and Karnak on equal footing.

With his superhuman strength, reflexes, and intellect taken into account, he’s an impossible opponent for any normal person to face and an incredible challenge for even other superpowered individuals.

Matthew Murdock

A Man Without Fear

Better known as Daredevil, Matthew Murdock is one of the trickiest fighters to face in Marvel Comics. Trained by seasoned martial artist Stick, Matt uses his heightened senses to compensate for his blindness.

He reads his opponents better than anyone else, able to fight even the very best and come out victorious. Don’t underestimate him for his lack of sight; Daredevil is one of the best fighters to be found.

Wolverine

The Best There Is At What He Does

Casual fans might assume that Logan is a berserker of a fighter, relying on his claws and regeneration to carry him through fights. While that is often true, he’s actually one of the most accomplished martial artists in the world.

It makes sense when you consider just how long he’s been alive, having been born all the way back in 1832. It’s said that he’s mastered every form of martial arts there is, which is a truly astounding feat. Wolverine really is one of the greatest there is.

Gamora

The Deadliest Woman In The Universe

It’s tricky comparing Gamora against other Marvel martial artists who are usually confined to Earth, making it straightforward to measure their skills against each other. Gamora, on the other hand, operates on a galactic, even universal, scale.

Gamora is said to know 83.4% of the fighting styles in the universe. There’s no way to know just how many that is, but it seems safe to assume it’s a lot. Gamora is on a level so different from other Marvel fighters that there’s no way to know how to rank her.

Danny Rand

The Living Weapon

Danny Rand, who Defenders fans will know as The Iron Fist, is one of the greatest martial artists to ever live. Not only is he a master of many of the martial arts of Earth, but most importantly, the martial arts of mystic K’un-Lun.

Without his powers, Danny Rand is dangerous, but with them, he’s another fighter entirely. His control of his Chi is second to none, granting him enhanced physical attributes and the famous Iron Fist Punch.

Shen Kuei

The Cat

Shen Kuei, alias Cat, might just be the greatest martial artist on Earth. Or he might be the second greatest, it’s a little unclear even to him and his rival, Shang-Chi. Neither man knows just who is the better fighter.

Being a less well-known character, Shen Kuei usually loses out on that top ranking when fans discuss the issue, but he deserves both more attention and more credit for his undeniable fighting prowess.

Zheng Shang-Chi

The Best

Although rivaled by Shen Kuei, popular opinion has always been that Shang-Chi is the greatest martial artist in all of Marvel. Without a definitive answer provided by the source material, the only deciding factor is to compare their feats. On that front, Shang-Chi wins hands down.

Shang-Chi has engaged in acts of heroism for years, defeating countless villains. He has also fought other heroes, being noted by the likes of Black Panther as surpassing even Danny Rand. When you factor in the powers granted by The Ten Rings, it’s hard to deny that Shang-Chi is the best.
